Earns its place in the blender_extensions library for turning bone assignment into a right-click pick in the viewport, including for properties that other add-ons expose.
Bone Eyedropper is an eyedropper tool for Blender that selects a bone from the 3D View and assigns it to a property. The chosen bone is entered directly into a String, EditBone, or PoseBone property field, and this works even when the property was added by another add-on. The armature it reads from is the active object, or the constraint target when the property belongs to a constraint.
The bone closest to the mouse cursor is the one selected, with visual feedback highlighting the bone name and its location in the 3D view. Run it from the right-click context menu inside a property field for direct input, or from the 3D View context menu to copy the selected bone name to the clipboard instead.
Bone Eyedropper is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Full details are on the developer's GitHub page.
Bone Eyedropper is best for riggers assigning bones to properties and setting up constraint subtargets in Blender.
Bone Eyedropper is completely free to download and use.
Bone Eyedropper is listed as compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so recent releases on that line should run it. The add-on is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Compatibility can shift as Blender's API changes between releases, so check the developer's GitHub page for the current supported range and any newer builds before installing. Confirming there first is the safest way to know it will load in your specific Blender version.
Bone Eyedropper installs through Blender's add-on preferences. Download the release zip, open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, click Install, select the downloaded zip file, and enable the add-on. You can also drag and drop it into Blender. Once enabled, right-click a String, EditBone, or PoseBone property field and choose Bone Eyedropper to pick a bone, or run it from the 3D View context menu to copy a bone name to the clipboard instead.
Bone Eyedropper selects the bone closest to the mouse cursor in the 3D Viewport, and gives visual feedback by highlighting the bone name and its location as you hover. The armature it reads from is the active object, or the constraint target when you use it on a constraint property. In an edge case there can be a slight discrepancy between the preview and a B-bone shape, which the developer notes as a known issue.
Bone Eyedropper copies the selected bone name to the clipboard when you run it from the 3D View context menu, outside of a property field. Inside a String, EditBone, or PoseBone property field, the right-click context menu instead enters the bone directly into that field. The clipboard behaviour is why the extension requests clipboard permission. This gives you two ways to use the same pick, depending on whether you launch it from a property or from the viewport.
