Earns its place in the superhive library for bringing a ZBrush and 3DCoat style sphere workflow into Blender, now built fully on Geometry Nodes.
BSpheres is a Blender addon from Yey! inspired by the sphere tools found in ZBrush and 3DCoat. It gives sculptors, modelers, concept artists and animators a way to block out base shapes for characters, creatures and other forms, then work them up for sculpting, prototyping and animation. Shapes can be created and then animated.
The workflow is straightforward: create your BSpheres, run the engine, and scale points with the Shift+S hotkey, which supports undo and redo. Symmetry precision helps when working across an axis, and the ToMesh operator converts spheres into geometry with support for the subdivision modifier. You can also remesh BSpheres for sculpting.
As of version 0.4.0 the addon is built fully on Geometry Nodes, and its sphere objects are generated with Geometry Nodes on Blender 2.93 and newer. It lists compatibility with Blender releases from 2.93 through 4.0 and is distributed under the GPL license. A demo video is available.
Bspheres is best for sculptors, modelers, concept artists and animators blocking out base shapes for characters, creatures and other forms before detailing.
Bspheres is completely free to download and use.
BSpheres lists compatibility with Blender 4.0, 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.1, 3.0 and 2.93. Its sphere objects are generated with Geometry Nodes, which requires Blender 2.93 or newer, and version 0.4.0 moved the addon fully over to Geometry Nodes. If you run one of the listed releases you should be able to install and use it. For versions outside that range, check the developer's page for the current status before downloading.
BSpheres follows a simple loop: create your BSpheres, run the engine, then scale points using the Shift+S hotkey. The addon includes undo and redo support for sphere scaling, so you can step back through adjustments while blocking out forms. It also offers symmetry precision for working across an axis. Once your base shape is ready, the ToMesh operator converts the spheres into geometry, with support for the subdivision modifier.
BSpheres includes a ToMesh operator that converts your spheres into geometry, and it supports the subdivision modifier during that conversion. You can also remesh BSpheres for sculpting, turning blocked-out forms into a workable base mesh. The addon is aimed at making base shapes of characters, creatures and anything you can imagine for sculpting, prototyping and animation, so the workflow runs from rough spheres through to a mesh you can refine further.
BSpheres is listed as free in this catalog, though licensing and any paid tiers can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current terms before you download. The addon is distributed under the GPL license. It has been published for around five years and carries a rating of four from sixteen ratings. For the latest details on availability, seats and support, the developer's page is the best reference.
