Convert Rotation Mode is a Blender add-on from Lauloque for changing the rotation mode of bones without losing existing work. Select one or more bones in Pose mode, pick the rotation mode you want them to use, and press the Convert button. The add-on scans through all the keyframes of the selected bones in the timeline and preserves the animation or poses you already made.
If you are unsure which rotation mode to use, the add-on includes a rotation modes cheat sheet, though the suggestions may vary from one rig or animation to another. Bones use two main coordinate systems: Blender's Y down, which you will most likely use, and X down, which comes up in cases like exporting to software that can only read X down. You can also customize which sidebar tab the panel appears in.
The current release, version 1.5.1, brings back support for Blender 4.5 LTS, adds more verbose developer logging, and fixes incorrect conversions along with an error that prevented conversion to Axis Angle. The add-on requests clipboard access to copy and paste bone transforms.
