Why we like it

Version 1.0.4 added multilayer EXR export that retains user-defined colors, along with brief instructions and shortcut modifications in the preferences settings.

What is CryptoMatte ID Color?

CryptoMatte ID Color generates ID channels in Blender using Cryptomatte nodes. It intelligently generates and connects a corresponding number of nodes based on the total number of objects or materials in the current scene, offering both an Object ID node group for visible renderable objects and a Material ID node group for visible scene materials.

You can pick one object and adjust its ID color directly, letting you customize the HSV value of a specified channel. The Random ID function reshuffles existing ID colors when the scene needs clearer separation. Results preview through Blender's compositor Viewer in real time, and Object ID or Material ID layers can be written to multilayer EXR when needed for later compositing.

The add-on includes shortcut support for Object ID, Material ID, Change ID, and Random ID, plus Chinese and English language modes. It runs on Blender 4.5 LTS and newer and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.

Frequently asked questions

Does CryptoMatte ID Color work with Blender 4.5?

CryptoMatte ID Color is compatible with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer. To use it, open the Compositor and find the panel in Sidebar > Tool, then click Object ID or Material ID to generate the ID color node group. From there you can use Change ID to edit a selected object's color or Random ID to reshuffle colors, and enable Use EXR when you need multilayer EXR output for compositing.

How do I install CryptoMatte ID Color?

CryptoMatte ID Color can be installed from Blender Extensions by opening Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, searching for CryptoMatte ID Color, then installing and enabling the add-on. For manual installation, download the latest package from Releases, open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, click Install from Disk, select the downloaded .zip file, and enable the add-on. It can also be dragged and dropped into Blender.

How does CryptoMatte ID Color differ from using Workbench for ID channels?

CryptoMatte ID Color generates ID channels using Cryptomatte nodes. Many people use Workbench to render single color images for ID channels, but Workbench cannot customize each color. This add-on lets you customize the HSV value of a specified channel and can randomly generate the desired state multiple times, intelligently generating and connecting nodes based on the number of objects or materials in the scene.

Is CryptoMatte ID Color free to use?

CryptoMatte ID Color is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The extension does not require special permissions. For current licensing details and the latest release, check the developer's page on GitHub.
