Export Render as DNG earns its place in the Blender Extensions library for a focused job: turning renders into RAW Adobe DNG files ready for derawtizers like RawTherapee. It ranks 489 on Blender Extensions.
Export Render as DNG, by FloBEAUG, adds an Export as DNG command under Image Editor → Image → Export as DNG in Blender. The output is saved as a RAW Adobe DNG file that can be opened in derawtizers such as RawTherapee, aimed at artists who want to push photorealistic renders further through professional RAW post-processing workflows.
Each exported file carries camera-style metadata, including Camera F-Stop, Focal Length, White balance, a default 100 ISO, and a default Exposure. According to the developer, the export applies a mask to the rendered image to simulate a Bayer pattern. The add-on also pairs with the LensSim add-on.
Version 1.0.3 removed the Tag.TileWidth and Tag.TileLength tags from DNG metadata generation, which had caused an Unexpected End of File crash in engines like RawTherapee, Darktable, and newer Adobe Camera Raw; files now default to a standard linear stripped layout that reads across modern raw processing software. It works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, is licensed under GNU GPL v3.0 or later, and ranks 489 on Blender Extensions.
Export Render as DNG is best for artists who want to push photorealistic renders further through professional RAW post-processing workflows.
Export Render as DNG is completely free to download and use.
Export Render as DNG is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so anyone on a current long-term-support release or later build can use it. The add-on is small at 25.4 KB and requests a single permission, writing DNG files to disk. Version 1.0.3 also fixed a metadata issue that previously caused crashes in RAW engines like RawTherapee, Darktable, and newer Adobe Camera Raw, so exported files now read reliably across modern raw processing software on supported Blender versions.
Export Render as DNG handles exporting only, not importing. According to the developer, exporting a DNG works by applying a mask to the rendered image to simulate a Bayer pattern, which intentionally drops color information that demosaicing software such as RawTherapee or Lightroom later reconstructs. Importing would require implementing a full DNG processing pipeline, including demosaicing and other raw-data handling steps, which the developer describes as a separate task not planned for this add-on. For now the tool stays focused on writing DNG files out of Blender.
Export Render as DNG writes several camera-style values into each exported file's metadata: Camera F-Stop, Focal Length, and White balance, plus a default 100 ISO and a default Exposure. This information travels with the RAW Adobe DNG file into derawtizers such as RawTherapee, where the render can be developed further. The add-on also pairs with the LensSim add-on. If you need details beyond these fields, the developer's page is the place to check.
Export Render as DNG can be added by dragging and dropping the add-on into Blender, or by downloading it and installing from disk through Blender's extensions preferences. Once installed, its command appears under Image Editor → Image → Export as DNG, and the output is saved as a RAW Adobe DNG file that opens in derawtizers such as RawTherapee. The extension requests one permission, writing DNG files to disk, and weighs 25.4 KB, so setup is quick on Blender 4.2 LTS and newer.
Export Render as DNG is listed as free here in the catalog, and it is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For the most current licensing terms and any changes, check the developer's page. The add-on is available directly in Blender through drag and drop or install from disk, and issues can be reported on the developer's GitHub tracker. At 25.4 KB it is a lightweight download for Blender 4.2 LTS and newer.
