Why we like it

Earns its place for tying Blender's scenes, cameras, and VSE into a single shot-based sequence workflow. Presented at the 2022 Blender Conference and shared as is by The SPA Studios pipeline team, without active support.

What is SPArk Sequencer?

SPArk Sequencer is a set of tools from TinyNick that improves the sequence workflow in Blender. Built for storyboarding and layout, it lets you work simultaneously on different shots by leveraging Blender's native scenes and cameras alongside the Video Sequence Editor (VSE).

The add-on synchronises VSE and scene timelines, and provides a VSE-based shot management system for adding, renaming, and deleting shots. You can batch render shots from the VSE, handle editorial import and export based on OTIO, and set up shared folders through collection linking between scenes. Some features, including timeline synchronization of scenes in the same window and batch rendering using the viewport render, may not work properly without the Blender SPA build.

The workflow was presented at the 2022 Blender Conference. Shared as is by The SPA Studios pipeline team, it comes without active support and is offered for the community to test and discuss.

Who is SPArk Sequencer best for?

SPArk Sequencer is best for storyboarding and layout work where you need to handle multiple shots at once using Blender scenes, cameras, and the VSE.

Frequently asked questions

Does SPArk Sequencer work with Blender 4.5?

SPArk Sequencer is compatible with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer, and the current release is version 0.1.6, last updated on 7 August 2025. It installs like any Blender add-on: drag and drop the downloaded package into Blender, or install it from disk through the extensions preferences. Note that some features are designed around a custom Blender SPA build and may not behave correctly on an official Blender build.

Which SPArk Sequencer features need the Blender SPA build?

SPArk Sequencer includes two features that may not work properly without the Blender SPA version: timeline synchronization of scenes in the same window, and batch rendering using the viewport render. The rest of the add-on, including VSE and scene timeline sync, shot management, batch rendering from the VSE, OTIO-based editorial import and export, and shared folders, is intended to run as a standard Blender add-on. To try the full experience, the developer's page offers a portable Windows 64-bit build.

Is SPArk Sequencer free to use?

SPArk Sequencer is listed as free here and is licensed under the GNU General Public License, Version 3 or later. The license carries an additional term: the names of the copyright holder and contributors may not be used to endorse or promote derived products without prior written permission. For current licensing details and the full license text, check the developer's page. The add-on is shared as is by The SPA Studios pipeline team, without active support.

How do I install SPArk Sequencer in Blender?

SPArk Sequencer installs like any Blender add-on. You can drag and drop the downloaded package directly into Blender, or download it and install from disk through Blender's extensions preferences. Alternatively, to try the full Blender SPA experience including this add-on, download the portable Windows 64-bit build from the developer's page, unzip it, and run Blender from there. Some features may not work properly when the add-on is used with an official Blender build.
