Font Selector stands out in the blender_extensions library for bringing font browsing with live preview into the 3D view and sequencer, the way font pickers work in compositing and editing software.
Font Selector adds font management to Blender, letting you browse available fonts and see them applied to a text object in real time. Instead of importing each font through the file browser, you can scroll through your installed fonts directly in the 3D view or the sequencer and watch the active text object update as you go.
The add-on detects font folders automatically based on your operating system and stores the font list in external cache files, so it doesn't rebuild the list on every startup. It checks for added or removed fonts and updates the list accordingly. Fonts are grouped into families with selectable types such as Regular, Bold and Condensed, and a favorites system lets you flag fonts and filter to just those. A Reveal file operator opens an explorer to the selected font, and the panel can sit in the properties editor, popovers or a pop-up operator.
Font Selector supports both 3D text objects and video text strips. It's distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer.
Font Selector is best for blender users managing large font collections who want to preview and apply fonts to 3D text objects and video text strips without importing each font through the file browser.
Font Selector is completely free to download and use.
Font Selector is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer. The add-on installs by drag and drop into Blender or by downloading and installing from disk. It requests file permissions to read font files and to read and write JSON preset files. For the exact behaviour on your setup and any newer builds, the developer's GitHub page is the best place to confirm compatibility.
Font Selector, outside of one operator, uses only the regular font slot of a Blender text object, so a bold font is applied by filling that regular slot. Blender itself supports up to four font types on a single text object: Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic. To set those up together, Font Selector provides the Load Font Family operator, which loads a family's Blender-specific font types in one click when they're available.
Font Selector supports both 3D text objects and video text strips, so you can browse and apply fonts in the 3D view or the sequencer. As you scroll through your installed fonts, the active text object updates directly, similar to how font pickers behave in compositing and editing software. This lets you preview a font in place rather than importing it first through the file browser.
Font Selector is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, which governs how you can use, modify and redistribute the add-on. It's listed as free here, and the developer accepts donations to buy them a coffee and support continued work on free tools. For the current license terms and the full source code, the developer's GitHub repository is the place to check.
