Why we like it

Geoflare earns its place in the superhive library for delivering geometry-nodes lens effects that render in real time across Eevee and Cycles, applied through presets in the asset browser.

What is Geoflare?

Geoflare is a geometry nodes object that generates lens effects in real time inside Blender, working in both Eevee and Cycles. It renders in the viewport and includes flares, streaks, camera dirt and glow, along with an object occlusion effect so scene objects can block the source light.

It integrates with the asset browser: you pick a preset and add it to the scene, which imports an object called X_Geoflare carrying a geometry nodes modifier. You then fill three fields — the camera, the light that generates the flare, and a collection of objects that can block that light. You can link objects to the block collection with Shift+M rather than moving them.

General parameters include global power for overall intensity, flicker for light intensity variation, a field parameter that restricts the effect while the light is in the camera's field of view, and render distance. Each element has its own color and intensity controls, using hue and saturation for color and value for intensity, plus scale. Version 1.0 adds asset browser presets, horizontal reflection elements and Blender 3.4 compatibility.

Who is Geoflare best for?

Geoflare is best for blender artists adding lens flares, streaks, camera dirt and glow in Eevee or Cycles.

How much does Geoflare cost?

Geoflare is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Geoflare work in both Eevee and Cycles?

Geoflare is compatible with both Eevee and Cycles and renders in real time in the viewport. In Cycles you may sometimes need to raise transparent max bounces in the Light Paths tab if artifacts appear, and in Eevee turning on bloom is recommended. The lens effect is created near the camera, so check your camera's near clip; with very distant lights the elements move away from the camera and clipping can occur. Depth of field with a low F-stop can ruin the effect.

How do I install Geoflare in Blender?

Geoflare installs by decompressing the zip file to your hard drive and adding that folder as a new asset library in Blender. From there you open the asset browser, choose a preset and add it to the scene. This imports an object called X_Geoflare that contains a geometry nodes modifier. You then fill three fields: the camera, the light that generates the lens flare, and a block collection holding objects that can block the source light. You can link objects to that collection with Shift+M instead of moving them, to keep your collections intact.

What Blender version does Geoflare support?

Geoflare version 1.0 lists Blender 3.4 compatibility, with Eevee and Cycles both supported. An earlier update brought the tool to Blender 3.3. If you need more than one lens flare in a scene, you duplicate the Geoflare object and fill it with the other lights. Each element carries its own color and intensity parameters, using hue and saturation for the color and value for intensity, alongside scale and element type controls where available.

Is Geoflare free to use?

Geoflare is listed as free here in the catalog, so no price is shown on this entry. For current licensing terms and any updates, check the developer's page. The version 1.0 retail release integrates with Blender's asset browser and ships with presets, and the developer notes that new presets will arrive in future releases. A demo video is also available. If you need more than one flare, the object can be duplicated and assigned to additional lights.
