Why we like it

Img2Mat_Pro earns its place in the blender_extensions library for combining material generation, color extraction, PMS matching, and annotated callouts in a single Blender panel, handy when a vendor needs more than a raw list of hex values.

What is img2mat_pro?

Img2Mat_Pro extracts colors from a reference image and turns them into clean Blender materials, swatches, labels, palettes, and assets. Version 2.0 extends that into a full creative round trip: start from a mood image, generate materials, finish your scene, then convert the render into PMS/Pantone-style color guidance and callouts for fabrication.

The add-on can match extracted colors to imported PMS/Pantone libraries, using either a full extracted palette or a single color sampled with Blender's color picker. Its Notable Colors method balances overall palette coverage with visually distinct accent colors, while Lock Colors let you name and preserve specific colors through materials and PMS output. The Callouts feature turns PMS results into an annotated board that places the source image in the viewport with swatches, labels, and lines back to the approximate sampled areas.

Released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license, Img2Mat_Pro works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. It does not include proprietary Pantone libraries; you import your own licensed .acb color books through the add-on preferences, which are converted into local JSON files for reuse on your machine.

img2mat_pro is best for creative teams working from images such as mood boards, renders, references, client art, scenic elevations, and finished looks who need usable Blender materials plus vendor-friendly color information.

How much does img2mat_pro cost?

Frequently asked questions

Does Img2Mat_Pro work with Blender 4.2?

Img2Mat_Pro is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. You access it from View3D > Sidebar > Img2Mat. A typical run starts by loading a reference image in Blender's Image Editor and enabling the Sync with Image Viewer checkbox at the top of the panel. Choose a palette size, add any Lock Colors you want preserved, then click Generate Materials to create materials, swatches, labels, assets, and Blender palettes. For current compatibility details, check the developer's page.

How do I install Img2Mat_Pro in Blender?

Img2Mat_Pro ships as img2mat_pro-2.0.0.zip, a Blender-installable extension package. Download the zip, then in Blender open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, choose Install from Disk, and select the zip file. Enable Image to Material, then open View3D > Sidebar > Img2Mat to begin. To use PMS/Pantone matching, you also import your own licensed .acb color books through the add-on preferences. A readable source copy, Image2Mat_Pro.py, is included for maintainers.

Does Img2Mat_Pro include Pantone or PMS libraries?

Img2Mat_Pro does not include or redistribute proprietary Pantone libraries. To use PMS/Pantone matching, you import your own licensed Adobe Color Book (.acb) files through the add-on preferences, and imported libraries are converted into local JSON files for reuse on your machine. From there you can match a full extracted palette or a single color sampled with Blender's color picker, producing a clear PMS-style list that can travel with your design package.

Is Img2Mat_Pro free to use?

Img2Mat_Pro is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for the current details. Note that the license covers the add-on itself; the Pantone/PMS matching feature relies on your own licensed .acb color books, which are not included and must be imported separately through the add-on preferences.
