JSBSim Viewer fills a niche in the Blender extensions library by turning JSBSim FDM XML into a visual 3D layout, useful for debugging configurations without reading raw XML.
JSBSim Viewer reads the XML structure of JSBSim flight dynamics model (FDM) files and plots the defined nodes, points, and reference locations in 3D space inside Blender. This lets you explore an aircraft's configuration visually rather than working from raw XML alone.
The add-on is aimed at inspecting the geometric and reference layout of JSBSim aircraft models, debugging or understanding FDM XML configurations, and visualizing how aerodynamic and structural points are positioned relative to each other. JSBSim itself is an XML-based flight dynamics model that supports nonlinear 6 degrees of freedom, configurable flight control, aerodynamics, propulsion and landing gear, along with atmospheric and geodetic modeling.
Developed by RenanMsV and released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, JSBSim Viewer is a compact extension at 6.6 KB and is distributed through the Blender extensions platform. It can be added by dragging and dropping into Blender or installed from disk. A demo video is available for the add-on.
JSBSim Viewer is best for blender users working with JSBSim FDM XML files who want to inspect and visualize aircraft configuration, reference points, and structural layout in 3D.
JSBSim Viewer is completely free to download and use.
JSBSim Viewer lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS. Note that Blender 6.0 and above is marked as unsupported for the current release. If you run a version outside the supported range, check the developer's GitHub page for updates before installing. Version 0.2.3 of the add-on updated its extension metadata to ensure compatibility with the latest Blender version, with no functional changes noted in that particular release, so behaviour should match earlier versions on supported builds.
JSBSim Viewer is distributed through the Blender extensions platform and can be added by dragging and dropping the extension into Blender. Alternatively, you can download the extension file and install it from disk through Blender's preferences. The add-on is a compact 6.6 KB download, and it does not require any special permissions to run. For the download link and any additional setup notes, refer to the developer's GitHub page for JSBSim Viewer.
JSBSim Viewer is listed as free here and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. This means it is open-source software governed by the terms of that license. For the full license text, the source code, and any details about current terms or usage conditions, consult the developer's GitHub page. RenanMsV maintains the extension, and version history and updates are published through the Blender extensions listing.
JSBSim Viewer reads JSBSim flight dynamics model (FDM) XML data. It parses the XML structure and plots the defined nodes, points, and reference locations in 3D space within Blender. This is useful for inspecting the geometric and reference layout of JSBSim aircraft models, debugging or understanding FDM XML configurations, and visualizing how aerodynamic and structural points are positioned relative to each other across the aircraft.
