Knotus earns its place in the superhive library for packaging over 100 knots, preset string shapes and a one-click Free Tube tool in a single add-on. Development and support have ended, but the developer confirms it still works in Blender 4.0 and beyond, with a final update adding automatic cap creation.
Knotus is a Blender add-on from H3LB4 built around creating strings and knots. It ships with an asset library of over 100 knots plus preset string shapes, letting you produce hard-to-knot knots, slip knots, icicle hitches and more in a few clicks.
Beyond knots, the Free Tube command turns objects made of edge polygons into a pipeline with one click, and created meshes can be reshaped with Edit Knot Mesh. Mesh Copy Attribute copies those edits across multiple objects at once. Free Colouring Materials handle the surfaces, with texture sizes from 1K to 4K, and Auto Displace switches between the Displace Modifier in EEVEE and the Displace node in Cycles automatically.
The materials rely on KTP2, the Knotus Texture Pack 2, which installs separately. Knotus runs on Blender 2.8 and up, with the developer confirming it works in Blender 4.0 and beyond, though development and support have now ended. A final update added an automatic cap creation command.
Knotus -The Masic Of Knots Blender Add-On is best for blender artists creating strings, knots, hitches, pipes and cables, whether from the built-in asset library or from their own edge-polygon geometry.
Knotus -The Masic Of Knots Blender Add-On is completely free to download and use.
Knotus targets Blender 2.8 and up, and the developer has confirmed it runs without issues in Blender 4.0 and beyond. Development and support have ended, since similar results can now be achieved with Geometry Nodes, so no further updates are planned. The final update added an automatic cap creation command. If you work in a recent Blender release, the add-on is reported to function normally, but you'll be using a version that is no longer actively maintained. Check the developer's page for the latest details before installing.
Knotus installs in two parts: the add-on itself and KTP2, the Knotus Texture Pack 2. First download both, then unzip KTP2.zip to a location of your choice. In Blender, go to Edit, then Preferences, then Add-ons, and install the Knotus file. Finally, set the Texture Filepath to the KTP2 folder you just unzipped. KTP2 replaces the older KTP pack and is no longer compatible with it, so make sure you select the new folder. From there you can load assets and start adding knots.
Knotus includes an Auto Displace feature that automatically switches between the Displace Modifier in EEVEE and the Displace node in Cycles, so the setup adapts to whichever engine you use. Its Free Colouring Materials support texture sizes from 1K up to 4K. As of version 1.1, the textures were changed to the KTP2 pack to allow more flexibility in colouring, which is why the separate KTP2 download and filepath step are required. You can also edit the materials on created objects.
Knotus provides a Free Tube function that creates a pipeline from objects made of edge polygons with one click. The resulting objects can be edited with Edit Knot Mesh, and their materials can be edited as well. Alongside this, the Mesh Copy Attribute lets you copy Edit Knot Mesh changes and paste them onto multiple objects at once. Between the tube tool and the asset library of over 100 knots plus preset string shapes, the add-on covers both knots and cable-style geometry.
Knotus is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing can change over time, so check the developer's page on superhive for the current terms before you download. The package includes the add-on and the separate KTP2 texture pack, both of which you'll need for the materials to work correctly. It carries a top rating from a small number of reviews on its store page. Development has ended, so treat it as a stable but unmaintained release rather than one expecting new features.
