Magic Wand earns its place in the Blender extensions library by focusing on one job, region selection driven by mesh topology, and exposing fine-grained similarity controls and boundary rules for it.
Magic Wand is a Blender 4.x add-on that brings topology-aware mesh selection to Edit Mode. You launch Smart 3D Magic Wand from the Magic Wand sidebar tab, hover over a face, edge, or vertex, and left-click to select a region. The selection grows from the clicked seed element through adjacency-based flood fill, and a real-time preview shows what will be selected before you commit.
Similarity controls in the sidebar can be tuned before or during selection. These include an angle threshold for face angle differences, a connected vertex limit, curvature sensitivity, a maximum growth distance, tolerance falloff for smoothing threshold transitions, and vertex color tolerance.
While the tool is active, expansion respects mesh structure and can be stopped by boundaries: hard edges, UV seams, material borders, and sharp curvature changes. Modal shortcuts let you adjust thresholds with the mouse wheel, switch between add, subtract, replace, and intersect behavior, toggle connected-only mode, and enter lock mode to freeze specific vertices. Left-click, Space, or Enter commits the selection, while Esc cancels it.
Magic Wand is best for blender artists who need topology-aware region selection while working on meshes in Edit Mode.
Magic Wand is completely free to download and use.
Magic Wand lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it targets the 4.x series. It runs in Edit Mode on a mesh object, and you open the tool from the Magic Wand tab in the sidebar, which you toggle with the N key. If you are on an older Blender release, check the developer's GitHub page before installing, since the stated support begins at 4.2 LTS. The version listed here is 0.0.4.
Magic Wand installs like other Blender extensions: drag and drop the add-on into Blender, or download it and use Install from Disk in the preferences. Once it is enabled, open a mesh in Edit Mode and launch Smart 3D Magic Wand from the Magic Wand sidebar tab, pressing N to toggle the sidebar if it is hidden. From there you hover over a face, edge, or vertex and left-click to select a region. The download is small, around 15 KB in size.
Magic Wand is listed as free here, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The extension also states that it requires no special permissions. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's GitHub page for current details before relying on it in a project. The version available is 0.0.4, and the listing shows it was published in May 2026.
Magic Wand offers four selection behaviors while the tool is active: add, subtract, replace, and intersect, switched with the A, S, R, and I keys. You can adjust the active threshold in real time with the mouse wheel and the secondary threshold with Ctrl and the wheel, while holding Shift uses larger adjustment steps. Pressing V toggles the connected vertex limit and X toggles connected-only mode. When the selection looks right, left-click or press Space or Enter to commit, or Esc to cancel.
