What is MoldForge?

MoldForge works inside Blender to convert a 3D model into a print-ready mold. It produces three mold types: a Silicone Pour Box (a thin-walled jacket with a glove/mother-mold workflow, registration keys and an MF_Skin preview of the silicone you'll pour), a Direct Printed Mold where the printed pieces are the mold for casting resin, wax or plaster (choose a Hugging shape or a Block), and a Tray/Open Pour one-part open pan for flat and relief objects like text, logos, coins and medallions.

The add-on creates self-registering splits with contoured or flat parting, cone keys or interlocking teeth. It handles undercuts by splitting into 3 or 4 radial wedges, adds clamp wings, bolt holes and an optional bolted flange ring for tall molds, plus real pour funnels with adjustable throat, height and mouth flare, air vents, and a detachable keyed base plate with dial-in fit clearance.

MoldForge reports volume and weight in ml and grams using material-density presets such as Dragon Skin, Mold Star, Smooth-Cast resin and plaster. It heals and auto-remeshes non-manifold or heavy scans, validates each part as a watertight single solid, and exports STL in one click. Free and open source under GPL-3.0.

Does MoldForge work with Blender 5.1?

MoldForge is compatible with Blender 5.1 and newer. It runs from the MoldForge tab in the 3D viewport sidebar, which you open by pressing N. From there you select your model, pick a mold type, adjust the options or keep the smart defaults, then click Generate Mold and export the parts as STL. Sizes are measured in scene units, where 1 unit equals 1 mm at the default scale. Because it targets Blender 5.1 and up, earlier Blender releases are not listed as supported.

How do I install MoldForge in Blender?

MoldForge is distributed as a Blender extension. You can drag and drop the add-on into Blender, or download the package and install it from disk through Blender's extension preferences. Once enabled, open the MoldForge tab in the 3D viewport sidebar by pressing N. The extension requests file permission so it can export the generated mold parts as STL files. After generating a mold you use the export step to write those STL parts to disk.

Is MoldForge free to use?
