Why we like it

Momentum earns its place in the Blender extensions library for adding follow-through directly on keyframes without a viewport simulation or a bake step.

What is Momentum?

Momentum is a Blender addon for creating configurable follow-through on your animations. It works exclusively on keyframes and is not a viewport simulation, so no bake is required. To use it, you select one keyframe per f-curve, open the 'Momentum' submenu within the graph curve, and click 'overshoot selected keyframe'.

The addon attempts to automatically calculate the velocity prior to the selected keyframe. If you don't want that, you can select 'fake velocity' instead. By configuring 'timing', 'decay', and 'amplitude', you can create locational or rotational overshoots that are springy, bouncy, or even very short 'jolts'.

Momentum is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Version 1.0.1 includes a bugfix, removes manual keyframe deletion for more intuitive UX, and removes automatic decimation because of occasionally undesirable results. The addon does not require special permissions.

Who is Momentum best for?

Momentum is best for blender animators who want to add configurable follow-through and overshoots to keyframed animations.

How much does Momentum cost?

Momentum is completely free to download and use.

  • Applied via the 'Momentum' submenu within the graph curve using 'overshoot selected keyframe'
  • Automatically calculates the velocity prior to the selected keyframe, with a 'fake velocity' option to override it
  • Configurable 'timing', 'decay', and 'amplitude' settings for locational or rotational overshoots
  • Produces springy, bouncy, or very short 'jolt' overshoots

Frequently asked questions

Does Momentum work with Blender 5.0?

Momentum is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer. The addon works exclusively on keyframes rather than as a viewport simulation, and it requires no bake. To apply it, you select one keyframe per f-curve, open the 'Momentum' submenu within the graph curve, and click 'overshoot selected keyframe'. Because it does not require special permissions, it stays within standard Blender addon behaviour. For the latest details and to report issues, check the developer's page on GitHub.

How does Momentum calculate velocity for the overshoot?

Momentum attempts to automatically calculate the velocity prior to the selected keyframe when you run 'overshoot selected keyframe'. If you don't want it to use that automatic calculation, you can select 'fake velocity' instead. From there, you configure 'timing', 'decay', and 'amplitude' to shape the result, producing locational or rotational overshoots that can be springy, bouncy, or even very short 'jolts'. All of this happens on keyframes, so there is no bake and no viewport simulation involved.

Is Momentum free to use, and what is its license?

Momentum is listed as free here and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The addon does not require special permissions. For the current licensing terms, the source code, and to report any issues, visit the developer's page on GitHub. You can also add the addon by dragging and dropping the file into Blender or by downloading it and installing from disk.

What changed in Momentum version 1.0.1?

Momentum version 1.0.1, published February 26th, 2026, includes a bugfix. It also removes manual keyframe deletion for more intuitive UX, and removes automatic decimation because of occasionally undesirable results. The addon remains compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer and continues to work exclusively on keyframes without requiring a bake. For further version history and to report issues, refer to the developer's page on GitHub.
