Why we like it

Viewfinder earns its place in the Superhive library as a focused camera-management utility, with recent updates adding a tag system and UI refinements consistent with other TinkerBoi add-ons.

What is Viewfinder - Camera Management Tool?

Viewfinder is a Blender add-on from TinkerBoi that focuses on organizing and previewing cameras in a scene. It presents cameras in a list on the side panel, which is especially helpful when a large environment contains many cameras. From that list you can view, select, find (frame selected), remove or change the settings of each camera, and bind cameras to timeline markers.

Switching between multiple cameras is handled through the list interface, and cameras can be tagged and filtered for organization. A camera preview lets you see the active camera without looking through it directly, though Cycles renders do not appear in the preview. You can also create a camera in the scene and bind it to a marker at the current frame.

Recent versions added a tag system with match-all and match-any filtering, a pin camera option, camera priority reordering, a select camera target constraint, and UI changes that move several buttons to the side of the list. A tag filter search box and camera filter (active, selected, scene, all) sit next to the search box.

Frequently asked questions

Does Viewfinder work with Blender 4.3?

Viewfinder version 1.8.1, released on 23 November 2024, was tested and confirmed compatible with Blender 4.3. That release added no new features but focused on bug fixes, including correcting Active Camera Mode when it attempted to display a non-camera object, fixing camera switching after creating a new camera with the marker-at-current-frame option, and adding a preference to hide the camera preview icon. For the most current compatibility details, check the developer's page.

Does the camera preview show Cycles renders?

Viewfinder lets you preview the active camera without looking directly through it, but Cycles renders will not show in the camera preview. The preview is intended to give you a view of the active camera while you continue working on the scene. If you need to see a Cycles result, you would view it through the camera itself rather than relying on the Viewfinder preview panel.

How does the tag system in Viewfinder work?

Viewfinder includes a tag system, introduced in version 1.7.0 and similar to the one in TinkerBoi's Action Commander. Tags can be toggled by clicking buttons, and you can filter cameras by Match All or Match Any. A separate tag filter search box was also added, sitting alongside the camera filter for active, selected, scene and all cameras next to the main search box, helping manage many cameras in a scene.

Is Viewfinder free to use?

Viewfinder is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details and to download the add-on, check TinkerBoi's developer page. Viewfinder was first released on 17 December 2021 and has received several updates since, with version 1.8.1 arriving in November 2024 adding bug fixes and Blender 4.3 compatibility.
