N Panel Sub Tabs earns its place by tackling a specific Blender annoyance, a cluttered sidebar, with tab grouping, per-workflow settings, and Shift multi-select. Documentation and a demo video are available.
N Panel Sub Tabs manages Blender's right sidebar by introducing the concept of Sub Tabs. You can group similar tabs into a category, for example placing rig-related tabs in one and material-related tabs in another. A tab can be placed in multiple categories, though it shows only in the last one enabled. The Sub Tabs Panel, also called the Title Panel, lets you switch between tabs quickly. Tabs don't have to belong to a category, so you can add only the ones you want.
Holding the Shift key enables multiple tabs in one category at the same time, useful when you want panels from different add-ons visible without switching frequently. From version 2.0, you can create different settings for different workflows or workspaces and switch them manually or let the add-on pick a matching one using a matching expression. The Hide Left Tabs option hides tabs that aren't in any category, with an exception list for tabs you still want shown.
The settings panel handles category management, including add, remove, rename, reorder, and fold or unfold, plus tab management. Preferences cover Max Tabs Each Row and Auto Apply On Startup. It was inspired by the Simple Tabs add-on.

N Panel Sub Tabs lets you enable multiple tabs in one category by holding the Shift key, a feature available from version 1.1.0. This helps when you need panels from different add-ons visible at the same time and don't want to switch between tabs frequently. Otherwise, tabs are switched one at a time from the Sub Tabs Panel, also called the Title Panel. Check the developer's documentation for the full details on multi-tab behaviour.
N Panel Sub Tabs supports separate settings for different workflows or workspaces from version 2.0 onward. You can switch between them manually, or let the add-on automatically pick a matching one based on a matching expression you set. This is useful when you only want the tabs relevant to your current workflow on screen, so you can focus on that workflow. N Panel Sub Tabs includes a Hide Left Tabs option, added in version 2.0, that hides tabs not placed in any category. If you want certain tabs to stay visible outside the sub tabs, leave them out of every category, enable Hide Left Tabs, and add those tab names as exceptions. You can also create several categories at once by separating names with commas, and add multiple tabs to a category in one step.
