Why we like it

Stands out in the blender_extensions library for addressing something Blender leaves out by default: animated resolution. The Render Animated Resolution operator works around that limitation, and the Bake Render Border feature adds a quick way to spin off cropped cameras. Version 2.3.2 fixes errors when the scene camera object isn't a camera and improves frame rate by only setting properties when they've changed.

What is Per-Camera Resolution?

Per-Camera Resolution replaces Blender's single, globally-defined scene resolution with a resolution set on each individual camera. Whenever you switch cameras, either manually or through timeline markers, the scene resolution updates to the active camera's. The per-camera settings live in the Object Data properties, under the Camera panel.

Because Blender doesn't support animating the resolution by default, and a regular animation render only uses the resolution at render start, the add-on adds a Render Animated Resolution operator that works around this. Starting a render this way locks the interface until the render completes or Blender is killed. The add-on also lets you bake render borders: set a render border inside the camera view with Ctrl + B, click Bake Render Border in the Custom Resolution panel, and a new camera is created using the exact area defined by the border, which allows selecting multiple cropped areas in a camera.

It's available in English, French, and simplified Chinese, requires no special permissions, and runs on Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. Note that the animation workaround can sometimes cause stability issues; if you hit them, try disabling the add-on.

Who is Per-Camera Resolution best for?

Per-Camera Resolution is best for blender artists working with multiple cameras that need different resolutions, rendering resolution changes across an animation, or baking cropped areas into separate cameras.

How much does Per-Camera Resolution cost?

Per-Camera Resolution is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Per-Camera Resolution work with Blender 4.2?

Per-Camera Resolution is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. You add it to Blender by dragging and dropping it in, or by downloading it and installing from disk. The add-on requires no special permissions. Once installed, the camera resolution settings appear in the Object Data properties, under the Camera panel. It's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and the current version is 2.3.2.

How does Per-Camera Resolution render changing resolutions across frames?

Per-Camera Resolution provides a Render Animated Resolution operator to work around a Blender limitation: animating the resolution isn't supported by default, and a regular animation render only uses the resolution set at render start. The operator lets the resolution update per camera during rendering. Note that starting a render this way locks the interface until the render finishes, or until Blender is killed.

How do I create a cropped camera with Per-Camera Resolution?

Per-Camera Resolution lets you create a new camera from a render border. Inside the camera view in the 3D viewport, set a render border with Ctrl + B, then click Bake Render Border in the Custom Resolution panel. A new camera is created that uses the exact area defined by the border. This makes it possible to select multiple cropped areas within a single camera.

What languages is Per-Camera Resolution available in?

Per-Camera Resolution is currently available in English, French, and simplified Chinese, with the simplified Chinese translation contributed by deathblood. If you'd like to see it in another language, the developer invites contributors to open an issue on the project page. The add-on requires no special permissions and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, so the source is open for anyone wanting to contribute.

Is Per-Camera Resolution free?

Per-Camera Resolution is listed as free here in the catalog. It's distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and requires no special permissions. For current licensing details and the latest build, check the developer's page. The add-on can be added directly through Blender by dragging and dropping it in, or by downloading it and installing from disk.
