This is Sony's initial 1.0.0 release, built for one job: sending 3ds Max scenes to the Spatial Reality Display for preview. Because it relies on separate hardware and a custom installer, plan to have both the display and Sony's installer in place before you start.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) connects 3ds Max to Sony's Spatial Reality Display, letting you preview your 3D computer graphics creations in 3D spatial reality. It operates directly from 3ds Max and is aimed at enhancing production accuracy and efficiency throughout the creative process.
The viewer loads and transfers 3ds Max scenes and can start or stop animation of the object on the display. Camera settings let you set the camera position for display on the Spatial Reality Display, while Spatial Clipping clips the front and top plane of the SRD view space. You can also change the position, angle and other properties of the displayed model according to the operation guide.
A separate Spatial Reality Display connection is required, and the plugin depends on Sony's Spatial Reality Display Installer, which uses a custom installer rather than the standard App Store installer. Some data may not reflect the scene correctly in 3D, texture and material can look different between a PC monitor and the display, and depending on the data, transferring scenes can take some time. General usage and instructions are provided in a PDF manual.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) is best for 3ds Max artists who want to preview their 3DCG scenes and animations on a Sony Spatial Reality Display.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) is completely free to download and use.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) requires a separate Spatial Reality Display connection to work, since the plugin transfers your 3ds Max scenes to that hardware for viewing in 3D spatial reality. Sony provides product pages for the USA, Canada, Japan and China, and notes the product may not be available in all countries or regions. Without a connected display, the plugin has nothing to output to, so confirm you have the hardware before installing.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) requires you to first install Sony's Spatial Reality Display Installer, downloaded from the developer's link as a zip file whose name includes the software version. This app uses a custom installer rather than the standard App Store installer, so the usual installation flow does not apply here. General usage and setup instructions are provided in a PDF manual linked on the developer's page.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) is listed as free here in the catalog. Licensing can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current terms. Note that the plugin still depends on a separate Spatial Reality Display connection and on Sony's Spatial Reality Display Installer, both of which you will need in place before you can preview 3ds Max scenes on the display.
Spatial Reality Display Plugin for Preview (3ds) notes that the feel of texture and material may look different on a PC monitor compared with the Spatial Reality Display. Some data may also not reflect the scene correctly in a 3D display, and depending on the data, transferring a scene to the display can take a certain amount of time. These are behaviours called out for the plugin, so differences between monitor and display previews are not necessarily errors.
