Vertex Overlap earns its place in the blender_extensions library as a focused mesh utility, sitting at popularity rank 244. The 1.1.0 update added the Show Overlaps button for previewing overlaps before merging. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
Vertex Overlap is a Blender add-on found in the Edit N-panel that alerts you to overlapping vertices in real-time. Canceling an extrusion without immediately undoing it can leave overlapping vertices behind, and those aren't easy to spot until rendering issues or odd editing behaviour show up. This add-on surfaces them before they cause trouble.
Real-time checking is disabled by default and turned on with a checkbox; with it off, a Check Overlaps button lets you check manually at any time in Edit mode. A Show Overlaps button highlights the overlapping vertices so you can preview what will be merged, which requires Vertex Selection Mode. You can set a custom Overlap Threshold distance, defaulting to 0.0001m, and a Merge Vertices button merges by that threshold in a single click, equivalent to selecting all and merging by distance. Select multiple objects and tab into Edit mode, and the count reflects overlapping vertices across all of them combined.
It supports Blender 4.2 LTS and newer and is released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license.
Vertex Overlap is best for blender modelers who want to catch and clean up overlapping vertices left behind by canceled extrusions or other edits, directly from the Edit N-panel.

Vertex Overlap supports Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. Because it's packaged as an Extension, that 4.2+ requirement applies, and it works on Windows, Linux, and Mac by default without listing platform-specific builds. The add-on requires no special permissions. Once installed, it appears in the Edit N-panel under the name Vertex Overlap, where you'll find the real-time alert checkbox, the Overlap Threshold setting, and the merge controls. Vertex Overlap can be installed directly from the Blender Extensions repository: in Blender, go to Edit then Preferences, click Get Extensions, search for Vertex Overlap, and install. Alternatively, you can install from disk by downloading the latest release from its GitHub page, opening Get Extensions, using the Extensions Settings drop-down to choose Install from Disk, and selecting the downloaded .zip file. After installation, Vertex Overlap shows up in the Edit N-panel.
Vertex Overlap requires Vertex Selection Mode to display the highlighted overlaps from its Show Overlaps button, which lets you preview which vertices will be merged before you commit. The overlapping-vertices count and the real-time alerts work in Edit mode, and the Check Overlaps button can be used manually there when real-time checking is disabled. The highlight preview specifically depends on being in Vertex Selection Mode.
Vertex Overlap is listed as free here and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
