Why we like it

You Are Autosave earns its place for a single-purpose approach: it nags you to save, turns red until you do, and won't clear until the file is actually saved.

What is You Are Autosave?

You Are Autosave is a Blender add-on from dr.sybren that keeps an eye on how long it's been since you last saved. When too much time passes, it shows a warning inside Blender so a failed auto-save doesn't catch you off guard.

You can set two timeouts: one for when the add-on starts nagging, and a second for when it reaches full panic mode. The warning turns red as things get more urgent, and the red is themable. The only way to clear it is to actually save your file. Version 1.5.0 adds text drawn in the viewport when the warning goes really red, so people know what's going on and that it isn't Blender glitching.

The add-on requires no special permissions and works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. It's listed here as free under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, with source available on the developer's GitLab page.

Who is You Are Autosave best for?

You Are Autosave is best for blender users who want a clear on-screen reminder to save manually, as a safeguard for when auto-save doesn't work.

How much does You Are Autosave cost?

You Are Autosave is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does You Are Autosave work with Blender 4.2?

You Are Autosave is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. If you're on the 4.2 long-term support release or any later version, the add-on should install and run without trouble. Older Blender versions fall outside the stated compatibility, so it's best to be on 4.2 LTS at minimum. Since it works by tracking how long it's been since your last save and showing a warning inside Blender, the current release, version 1.5.0, is aimed at these supported Blender versions.

How do I install You Are Autosave?

You Are Autosave can be installed two ways. You can drag and drop the add-on directly into Blender, or download the add-on file and install it from disk. The download is small, so setup is quick either way. Once enabled, it starts tracking the time since your last save and shows a warning when the timeouts you've configured are reached. There are no special permissions to grant during installation, which keeps the process straightforward.

Does You Are Autosave need special permissions?

You Are Autosave requires no special permissions to run. The listing notes that the extension does not need any special access, which keeps installation straightforward. Its job is limited to tracking how long it's been since your last save and drawing a warning inside Blender, including text in the viewport when the warning turns really red. At around 17 KB, it stays small and focused on that one task.

Is You Are Autosave free to use?

You Are Autosave is listed here as free, and it's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. That license generally allows use, modification and redistribution under its terms. For the most current licensing details and the source code, check the developer's GitLab page at gitlab.com/dr.sybren/you-are-autosave. The add-on has been downloaded over 30,000 times through Blender's extension platform.
