Earns its place in the Superhive library for a focused purpose: bringing game-engine navigation habits into Blender. The developer notes the keymaps haven't been tested on Linux or Mac and invites feedback.
AP Navigation changes how you move through a Blender scene, adapting the viewport to the navigation style used in Unreal and Unity. By holding down the right mouse button and pressing WASD, you move forward, backward, left and right, mirroring the controls those game engines already share. It is aimed at people who switch between Blender and a game engine and want a consistent way to move around.
The add-on ships with several different keymaps. They all share the same WASD navigation but vary in their other shortcuts, so you can read each description to find the one that fits your workflow. All keymaps are included together, and you can install them all and decide later which one to keep active. A Documentation tab covers installation instructions and lists which shortcuts have been changed.
The keymaps are described as fully functional, though the developer notes they have not been tested on Linux or Mac and welcomes feedback on any issues. Alex Pearce is also open to building keymaps that emulate other software such as Maya or Houdini if users request them. A demo video is available.
Ap Navigation is best for blender users who also work in Unreal or Unity and want a consistent way to navigate the viewport across those applications.
Ap Navigation is completely free to download and use.
AP Navigation lets you move through a Blender scene by holding down the right mouse button and pressing WASD, moving forward, backward, left and right. This mirrors the navigation style found in Unreal and Unity, which the developer notes are already very similar to each other. The approach reworks Blender's keymap rather than the other engines, taking advantage of Blender exposing its source code so users can change the keymap. It is designed for people who switch between Blender and a game engine and want their movement controls to line up.
AP Navigation includes a few different keymaps. They all share the same WASD navigation but differ in their other shortcuts, and each has a description so you can see which will work best for you. Every keymap is included together, so you can install all of them and decide later which one you want to use. The Documentation tab lists which shortcuts have been changed for each keymap, along with installation instructions to help you set them up.
AP Navigation is described as fully functional, but the developer has not been able to test it on Linux or Mac, and notes there may be some cases where the keymaps don't function as expected. If you run into problems on those systems, the developer asks that you report them so they can be addressed for you and for future users. The add-on lists compatibility with Blender versions 2.8, 2.81, 2.82, 2.83 and 2.9.
AP Navigation is listed as free in this catalog. It is released under the GPL license. For current licensing details and to download the add-on, check the developer's page, where Alex Pearce also mentions being open to creating keymaps for other software such as Maya or Houdini if users request them with a list of essential keys. You can reach out through the developer's page to suggest a program you'd like emulated in Blender.
