What is Armature Pie?

Armature Pie is a Blender add-on built around two tools for working with armatures. ArmaturePicker, found under View3D > Sidebar > ArmPie, lets you select your armature from numerous objects. You can record filtering settings to a preset and switch back to it next time, and hide other armature objects when you make a selection.

The Solo Pie toggles bone collection solo through a pie menu. Only BoneCollections set as titles, along with their children, appear in the menu, keeping it clean and easy to use. Solo Settings configure both the Solo Pie and the Show Panel, letting you mark a collection as a title and set its icon or name and its position in the pie.

Keymaps are configurable to fit a particular workflow, with defaults of Ctrl + Right Mouse for the Solo Pie and Shift + 1 for the Armature Picker. The Solo Pie can be called for the active object or for a specific object, which helps in cases where the armature can't be activated, such as Weight Painting. Version 1.1.2 fixed a keymap display error. The add-on requires no special permissions and works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer.

Who is Armature Pie best for?

Armature Pie is best for blender artists working with scenes that contain many armatures, who want quicker armature selection and pie-menu control over bone collection solo states.

How much does Armature Pie cost?

Armature Pie is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Armature Pie work with Blender 4.2 and newer?

Armature Pie is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it runs on current long-term-support releases. The current version is 1.1.2, and the add-on requires no special permissions. You can add it by dragging and dropping it into Blender, or by downloading it and installing from disk. Its panels appear under View3D > Sidebar > ArmPie, where you'll find both the ArmaturePicker and Solo Pie tools.

What are the default keymaps in Armature Pie, and can I change them?

Armature Pie ships with two default keymaps: Ctrl + Right Mouse opens the Solo Pie, and Shift + 1 opens the Armature Picker. Both are configurable, so you can change the panel-calling shortcuts to suit a particular workflow. The Solo Pie can be triggered for the currently active object or for a specific object you choose, which is useful in situations where the armature can't be activated, such as Weight Painting.

How does the Solo Pie decide which bone collections to show in Armature Pie?

Armature Pie's Solo Pie shows only BoneCollections that are set as titles, together with their children, which keeps the pie menu clean and easy to use. In Solo Settings you configure both the Solo Pie and the Show Panel: you mark a collection as a title, set its icon or name, and choose its position within the pie menu. The Solo Pie itself toggles bone collection solo states directly from that menu.

Is Armature Pie free, and what license does it use?

Armature Pie is listed as free here and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It requires no special permissions to install. For the current licensing terms and the latest version, check the developer's page. Version history and issue reporting are handled through the project's GitHub repository, where you can also confirm the most recent updates.
