Axis Addon fills a narrow niche in the superhive library, generating alignment axes from planes, circles and three points inside Blender's edit mode and positioning the 3D cursor to match.
Axis Addon, by Tiemen's addons, is a Blender add-on for aligning objects, particularly around axis and round holes. Its options live in edit mode, appearing in the 'edit' menu after you download and install the add-on.
The add-on offers several tools. 'Axis through plane' creates an axis at the weighted center of a plane, perpendicular to the plane. 'Axis through three point' takes three points of a circle and builds an axis at the circle's center, perpendicular to the circle. 'Cursor at axis' places the 3D cursor at one of the axis points, which can be swapped, with the cursor's direction adapted to the axis; creating a new object at the cursor and choosing 'align - 3D Cursor' sets the object in the axis direction. 'Remove axis' clears all axes from the object.
Rotation and scale need to be applied for the axis and cursor to reach the right place, and the latest version shows a button when scale or rotation hasn't been applied. It runs on Blender 2.93 under the GPL license, includes documentation, and has a demo video available.
Axis Addon is best for blender users aligning objects around axes and round holes while working in edit mode.
Axis Addon is completely free to download and use.
Axis Addon lists Blender 2.93 as its supported version. If you're running a newer build of Blender, it may still work, but only 2.93 is listed, so the developer's page is the best place to confirm current compatibility. Installation follows the standard add-on process: download the file and install it, after which the tools appear in edit mode under the 'edit' menu. The options only show up in edit mode, so switch to it before looking for them.
Axis Addon places all of its tools in edit mode. After installing, switch a mesh into edit mode and open the 'edit' menu, where entries such as 'Axis through plane', 'Axis through three point', 'Cursor at axis' and 'Remove axis' appear. 'Axis through plane' builds an axis at the weighted center of a plane, perpendicular to it, while 'Axis through three point' uses three points of a circle to place an axis at the circle's center. 'Remove axis' clears all axes from the object.
Axis Addon relies on rotation and scale being applied to the object before it can place the axis and 3D cursor correctly. If those transforms aren't applied, the axis or cursor can end up in the wrong position. The latest version helps with this by showing a button when scale or rotation hasn't been applied, flagging that the transforms still need attention. Applying rotation and scale first keeps the generated axis and cursor where you expect them.
Axis Addon lets you align a new object to an axis using the 'Cursor at axis' option. It places the 3D cursor at one of the axis points, which can be swapped, and adapts the cursor's direction to the axis direction. From there, create a new object at the cursor position and choose 'align - 3D Cursor', and the new object follows the direction of the axis. Remember to apply rotation and scale first so the cursor sits in the correct place.
Axis Addon is listed as free here, and it's distributed under the GPL license. Licensing terms can change over time, so the developer's page is the place to check current cost and any conditions before you download. The add-on is also noted as a Dev Fund contributor. Documentation is included, which can help you get set up and understand each of the axis tools once it's installed in Blender.
