Blink BG earns its place in the Blender extensions library for a focused set of background-image controls, from opacity blinking to depth toggling, packed into a lightweight add-on.
Blink BG manages camera background image opacity in Blender using two values: Opacity A as the base opacity during normal work, and Opacity B as the target applied when the Blink action triggers. A swap button instantly exchanges the two values. The default shortcut is Ctrl + Alt + V, customisable in Blender's Keymap preferences under the 3D View section.
The Blink action offers two modes. In the unlocked Hold & Delay mode, the background switches to Opacity B while the shortcut is held and reverts on release, while a UI button click switches then reverts after a set delay (default 0.3 seconds). In the locked Toggle mode, the shortcut and button keep Opacity B until pressed again. A one-click Depth toggle switches the background between the front and back of 3D models, shown by an up/down arrow icon.
Advanced options include a Target BG index slider for cameras with multiple background images, and Auto-Sync Pinned Camera, which updates a pinned Camera Properties target when the active camera changes. A Match Render Size button sets the scene resolution to the first background image's dimensions.
Blink BG is best for blender artists controlling background image visibility during layout creation and modeling workflows.
Blink BG is completely free to download and use.
Blink BG is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so version 4.2 is supported. You can add it by dragging and dropping into Blender, or by downloading and installing from disk. The extension does not require special permissions. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and issues can be reported through the developer's GitHub repository listed on the project page.
Blink BG uses Ctrl + Alt + V as its default shortcut for the Blink action. You can change this in Blender's Keymap preferences under the 3D View section. The add-on also offers two behaviours: an unlocked Hold & Delay mode where the background switches to Opacity B while the key is held and reverts on release, and a locked Toggle mode where pressing keeps Opacity B until pressed again.
Blink BG includes a Match Render Size button located in the Camera Properties > Background Images panel. With one click it matches the scene's rendering resolution (Resolution X and Y) to the exact dimensions of your loaded image or movie clip. Note that this feature retrieves the resolution from the first background image added to the camera list; subsequent images do not affect the calculation.
Blink BG is listed as free here and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For current licensing details and the source code, check the developer's GitHub page. The extension does not require special permissions and is a lightweight Blender add-on written entirely in Python. You can install it by dragging and dropping into Blender or by downloading and installing from disk.
