Version 0.2.2 reworked handler usage based on reviewer feedback, so the add-on no longer registers application handlers, msgbus subscriptions, or draw handlers at enable time. As a behavior change, Show Plate is now session-only and resets to off when a file is reopened.
Camera Shift Sync lets you move a perspective camera freely in Blender while shift_x and shift_y are recalculated in real time, so the center of the frame stays locked on a world-fixed target plane. The idea is to build and refine compositions by moving the camera rather than re-aiming it. You work from the Camera Shift Sync tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar (N-Panel): select a camera, enter the distance to your subject or use Get Distance from Click, then enable Initialize to fix a target plane in world space at that distance.
From there, panel sliders move the camera along the target plane's local axes or toward and away from the target, and the lens shift follows automatically. A Plate Transform mode edits the target plane's location and rotation with the camera following rigidly, while shift values stay unchanged. A translucent plate overlay visualizes the target plane in the viewport.
Safe bake-out handles state cleanly: editing the camera transform externally, deactivating the camera, or saving the file automatically de-initializes, so the camera keeps its current position, shift, and lens. The add-on works with perspective cameras only.
Camera Shift Sync is best for blender artists composing perspective camera shots who want to build framing by moving the camera while keeping the frame center on a fixed target.
Camera Shift Sync is completely free to download and use.
Camera Shift Sync is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. It installs as a Blender extension, which you can add by dragging and dropping the downloaded file into Blender or by using Install from Disk. Once enabled, you access its controls from the Camera Shift Sync tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar (N-Panel). The current release, version 0.2.2, was published in June 2026 and requires no special permissions to run.
Camera Shift Sync supports perspective cameras only, meaning cameras whose type is set to PERSP. For orthographic or panoramic cameras, the panel is grayed out and the tool cannot be used. This is a stated limitation of the add-on, since its whole behavior depends on recalculating lens shift for a perspective camera. If you need to work with a shot, make sure the camera is set to perspective before initializing a target plane.
Camera Shift Sync installs like other Blender extensions. You can drag and drop the downloaded add-on file directly into Blender, or download it and use Install from Disk. After installation and enabling, select a camera and open the Camera Shift Sync tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar (N-Panel). Enter the distance to your subject in Target Distance or use Get Distance from Click, then enable Initialize to fix the target plane in world space at that distance.
Camera Shift Sync is listed as free here and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It requires no special permissions when enabled in Blender. For current licensing details, the source download, and to report issues, check the developer's page and repository. The add-on is a compact download and its most recent version, 0.2.2, was published in June 2026 with reworked handler behavior based on reviewer feedback.
