Why we like it

Easy Parallax earns its place for turning a normally node-heavy shader into a one-click operation, producing depth from a single face rather than dense geometry.

What is Easy Parallax?

Easy Parallax is a Blender addon that converts existing materials into Parallax Occlusion Mapping shaders. With a single click, it generates real-time displacement effects on one face, using texture maps you already have: Normal, Albedo, Displacement, and Roughness.

The workflow runs through a dedicated panel. Load your maps into the input slots, then click Add Parallax Occlusion Mapping to apply the shader to the selected material. A Parallax Strength slider controls the intensity of the displacement, and an Extension Type setting handles texture boundaries with either Repeat or Clip. If you prefer manual control, Scan Texture Maps detects available displacement maps so you can select and apply a height map yourself.

Because the effect works with minimal geometry, it stays lightweight and performance-oriented even in large scenes. That makes it a fit for games and real-time applications, low-poly or performance-intensive scenes, and quick, high-quality visualizations. A demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

Does Easy Parallax work with materials I've already set up?

Easy Parallax works with existing materials, converting them into Parallax Occlusion Mapping shaders. You load your Normal, Albedo, Displacement, and Roughness maps into the addon panel, then click Add Parallax Occlusion Mapping to apply the shader to the selected material. Rather than rebuilding node setups by hand, it generates the displacement effect from the texture maps you already have. If you want more control over which map drives depth, the Scan Texture Maps option detects available displacement maps so you can pick one and apply it manually with Apply Height Map.

How do I control the displacement intensity in Easy Parallax?

Easy Parallax includes a Parallax Strength slider that sets how strong the displacement effect appears, with a default value of 0.5. You can raise or lower it to fine-tune the result, and the documentation suggests matching the strength to the scale of your object to avoid over-displacement. Alongside strength, an Extension Type setting lets you choose Repeat, which extends the texture by repeating it, or Clip, which crops the texture edges. Together these settings shape both the depth of the effect and how the texture behaves at its boundaries.

Is Easy Parallax suitable for real-time projects and games?

Easy Parallax is built to produce depth from just one face, which keeps it lightweight and performance-oriented. Because it avoids the dense geometry that traditional displacement methods rely on, the developer positions it for games and real-time applications, low-poly or performance-intensive scenes, and quick, high-quality visualizations. The documentation also notes it suits real-time uses like game engines or viewport rendering. For the best outcome, high-resolution texture maps are recommended, and combining the effect with Blender's lighting helps bring out the sense of depth.

Is Easy Parallax free to download?

Easy Parallax is listed here as free. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so check the developer's page from Blender Procedural for the current terms before downloading. The addon works inside Blender through its own panel, where you load your Normal, Albedo, Displacement, and Roughness maps, apply the Parallax Occlusion Mapping shader, and adjust settings like Parallax Strength and Extension Type. A demo video is available if you want a closer look before trying it.
