Flatterer earns its place in the blender_extensions library as a focused SVG exporter for laser-cut work, backed by more than 22,000 downloads and a GPL v3 license.
Flatterer is a Blender add-on that converts a 3D model into a set of flat shapes suitable for laser cutting, then exports them to SVG. It's aimed at boxes, enclosures, and other designs made for laser cutting.
Version 1.6.0 adds two Boolean Cut operators: one cuts all selected objects out of the active object, the other cuts the active object out of all selected objects. Their modifiers are placed ahead of any Solidify modifier. The same release adds a Shape Table that includes the surface area in square metres of each exported shape, and extends engrave edge support to edges inside the mesh rather than only wire edges.
Flatterer runs on Blender 4.2 LTS and newer and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Exporting SVG files to disk is the permission it requests, and it has passed 22,000 downloads in the blender_extensions library.
Flatterer is best for exporting boxes, enclosures, and other laser-cut designs from Blender to SVG.
Flatterer is completely free to download and use.
Flatterer lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it runs on version 4.2 and later releases. If you are on an older build of Blender, it falls outside the stated compatibility range. The current release is version 1.6.0, updated in March 2024, and it is distributed through the blender_extensions library. You can install it by dragging and dropping into Blender or by downloading and installing from disk, and you can confirm the current supported versions on the developer's page before installing.
Flatterer exports flat shapes from a 3D Blender model to SVG, a format suitable for sending to a laser cutter. Exporting SVG files to disk is the single permission the add-on requests. It is aimed at boxes, enclosures, and other designs made for laser cutting. Version 1.6.0 also adds a Shape Table that includes the surface area in square metres of each exported shape. You can install the add-on by dragging and dropping into Blender or by downloading and installing from disk.
Flatterer 1.6.0 adds two Boolean Cut operators, one that cuts all selected objects out of the active object and one that cuts the active object out of all selected objects, with their modifiers placed before any Solidify modifier. The release also adds a Shape Table showing each exported shape's surface area in square metres and extends engrave edge support to edges inside the mesh, alongside bug fixes for Align to Local Axis and zero-length edges.
Flatterer is listed as free here and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For current licensing terms and any conditions attached to that license, check the developer's page. The add-on can be installed via drag and drop into Blender or downloaded and installed from disk. It requests a single permission, exporting SVG files to disk, and the current release is version 1.6.0, updated in March 2024 and distributed through the blender_extensions library.
