Font Mate earns its place for pulling font browsing, filtering, and application into a single viewport pop-up, so text work stays in one spot. A demo video is available for a closer look.
Font Mate is a Blender add-on for users who regularly work with text objects. It gathers system and user fonts directly in the 3D viewport, so you can preview and apply typefaces to selected text without opening a file browser. The pop-up opens with a configurable Ctrl + F hotkey or a Font button in the viewport header that appears when a text object is selected.
Font sources are handled through simple toggles: All Fonts combines system and user directories, while System Fonts, User Fonts, and a custom directory option cover project-specific or downloaded files. A keyword search box narrows the list, and built-in filters isolate styles such as Bold, Italic, Light, Regular, Medium, Black, and Thin.
Marked favourites sit in a Quick Access section, and a recent fonts history tracks the typefaces you have applied. Selecting a font updates all currently selected text objects. Preferences let you toggle favourites, recent history, alphabetical separators, and the default font paths for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Font Mate is listed as Blender extension compatible.
Font Mate is best for blender users who frequently work with text objects and want to preview, filter, and apply system, user, or custom fonts without leaving the 3D viewport.
Font Mate is completely free to download and use.
Font Mate is listed as Blender extension compatible, so it fits into Blender's extension system for text work. Once enabled, it adds a pop-up you open with a configurable Ctrl + F hotkey, along with a Font button in the 3D viewport's tool header that appears when a text object is selected. From there you load fonts, browse, and apply them to your selection. The developer's page is the best spot to confirm the exact Blender versions supported before you install.
Font Mate applies fonts through a short workflow inside the 3D viewport. Select your text object or objects, press Ctrl + F or click the Font popover in the header, then click Load Fonts, which is only required once per session or change. Use the search box and style filters to refine the list, then pick a font from the list or the dropdown. The selected font applies in real time to every currently selected text object, so you see the change straight away.
Font Mate can load fonts from a custom directory alongside system and user locations. Its source toggles include All Fonts, which combines the system and user directories, plus separate System Fonts and User Fonts options, and a Custom Directory setting where you point it at a specific folder for project-specific or downloaded files. In preferences you can also customise the default system and user font paths for Windows, macOS, and Linux, so the add-on reads from the locations you actually use.
Font Mate is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it. On the functionality side, the add-on centralises system, user, and custom fonts in the 3D viewport, with keyword search, style filters, favourites in a Quick Access section, and a recent fonts history. A demo video is also available if you want to see more before installing.
Font Mate includes built-in style filters that narrow the list to Bold, Italic, Light, Regular, Medium, Black, and Thin. Alongside these, a keyword search box lets you type to filter the font list instantly. You can also mark any font as a favourite for the Quick Access section and rely on the recent fonts history to re-select typefaces you have used. Alphabetical separators can be toggled in preferences to add dividers in the main font list for clarity.
