Why we like it

Grease Mesh earns its place in the blender_extensions library for keeping the workflow non-destructive: because each generator is built on Geometry Nodes, you can revisit thickness, segments and other settings in the Modifiers panel long after the mesh exists. It has moved through a run of small updates to version 1.0.7.

What is Grease Mesh?

Grease Mesh is a Blender addon that converts Grease Pencil drawings into 3D meshes using Geometry Nodes. The conversion is non-destructive: the Grease Pencil object stays editable, so modifying your strokes updates the mesh automatically. Its tools sit in the 3D Viewport N-Panel under the GPTools tab.

Several operators cover different shapes. Solid Mesh fills drawn shapes and extrudes them into solid objects with adjustable thickness, while Mirror Mesh builds a mirrored solid from a drawn half-shape. Path Mesh sweeps a cross-section profile along a drawn path, and Screw revolves a drawn profile 360° with configurable segments, auto-detecting the axis and centerline. Wall Mesh generates a wall from strokes.

Beyond conversion, Bool Cut draws a shape on a mesh surface and cuts it with a boolean, Array on Pencil distributes copies of a mesh along a drawn path, and Stamp Scatter instances assets from a collection onto mesh surfaces at Grease Pencil marks. Lattice Wrap conforms one mesh onto another's surface. Because the GN-based operators stay non-destructive, you can tweak their settings in the Modifiers panel after creation.

Who is Grease Mesh best for?

Grease Mesh is best for blender artists who model from Grease Pencil drawings and want non-destructive mesh generation via Geometry Nodes.

How much does Grease Mesh cost?

Grease Mesh is completely free to download and use.

Key features

  • Non-destructive GP-to-mesh conversion powered by Geometry Nodes — the Grease Pencil object stays editable and the mesh updates automatically
  • Solid Mesh fills drawn shapes and extrudes them into solid 3D objects with adjustable thickness
  • Mirror Mesh creates a mirrored solid mesh from a drawn half-shape
  • Path Mesh sweeps a cross-section profile along a drawn path, with path and profile on separate layers
  • Screw revolves a drawn profile 360° with configurable segments, auto-detecting the revolution axis and centerline
  • Stamp Scatter instances assets from a collection onto mesh surfaces at Grease Pencil marks
  • Lattice Wrap conforms one mesh onto another mesh's surface using a fitted lattice and Shrinkwrap modifier

Frequently asked questions

Does Grease Mesh work with Blender 4.2?

Grease Mesh is built for Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so any version from 4.2 onward should run it. The addon relies on Geometry Nodes to convert Grease Pencil drawings into meshes, and its tools appear in the 3D Viewport under the N-Panel's GPTools tab. If you're on an earlier Blender release, you would need to update before installing. The current version listed is 1.0.7, updated in February 2026, so pairing it with a recent 4.2+ build is the safest bet.

How do I install Grease Mesh in Blender?

Grease Mesh installs from disk like other Blender extensions. Download the addon as a ZIP, then open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons and choose Install from Disk. Select the ZIP file and enable the entry labelled Grease Mesh. From the developer's Blender Extensions page you can also drag and drop the download straight into Blender. Once enabled, the toolset appears in the 3D Viewport N-Panel under the GPTools tab, where you can start drawing Grease Pencil strokes and converting them.

Is Grease Mesh free, and how is it licensed?

Grease Mesh is listed as free here, and it's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. That license covers how you can use, modify and redistribute the code. For the current terms and any future licensing details, check the developer's page on GitHub or the Blender Extensions listing. The extension notes it requires no special permissions to run, and installation follows the standard install-from-disk process for Blender add-ons.

Does editing my Grease Pencil strokes update the generated mesh?

Grease Mesh keeps the conversion non-destructive by building it on Geometry Nodes. When you generate a mesh from a Grease Pencil object, the drawing stays editable — modify your strokes and the mesh updates automatically. Because the GN-based operators create Geometry Nodes modifiers, you can also adjust their settings in the Properties > Modifiers panel after the mesh is created. Tools like Solid Mesh expose thickness controls there, so you can refine results without redrawing from scratch.
