Why we like it

Mirror Image sits in the Blender extensions library as a compact Paint utility. Worth noting the mirror can't be undone on its own, so R4V3N's save-then-reload routine is the safe way to back out a flip.

What is Mirror Image?

Mirror Image is an add-on from R4V3N that applies mirroring to the active image in Blender. Working on the X or Y axis, it flips one half of the image and overwrites it onto the opposite side. R4V3N notes it might be useful when you draw directly on textures with symmetrical UV.

One thing to keep in mind: the image is not mirrored in real-time. The operation also cannot be undone on its own — an undo will step back to before your last stroke rather than reversing only the mirror. To work safely, R4V3N suggests saving the image, mirroring, then reloading the image if you need to undo the mirror.

The add-on is at version 1.0.0 and works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. It requires no special permissions and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. At 2.5 KB, it installs by drag and drop into Blender or from disk.

Who is Mirror Image best for?

Mirror Image is best for blender artists who paint directly on textures with symmetrical UV and want to mirror the active image across the X or Y axis.

How much does Mirror Image cost?

Mirror Image is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mirror Image work with Blender 4.2?

Mirror Image lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it runs on 4.2 and later releases. The add-on is currently at version 1.0.0 and, at 2.5 KB, is a lightweight download. If you're on an older Blender build, you may not be able to install it, since 4.2 LTS is the stated minimum. For the most current compatibility details, check the developer's page before installing.

How do I install Mirror Image in Blender?

Mirror Image installs either by drag and drop into Blender or by downloading the file and installing it from disk through Blender's extensions preferences. The package is 2.5 KB, so the download is quick. Once installed, it applies mirroring to the active image along the X or Y axis. It also requires no special permissions, which keeps the setup straightforward. Refer to the developer's page for the download and any step-by-step guidance.

Can I undo a mirror applied by Mirror Image?

Mirror Image cannot be undone on its own. Because it flips one half of the image and overwrites it onto the opposite side, an undo will step back to before your last stroke rather than reversing only the mirror. R4V3N recommends a safe routine: save the image first, apply the mirror, then reload the image if you need to undo the flip. The image is also not mirrored in real-time, so plan your edits with that in mind.

Is Mirror Image free to use?

Mirror Image is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. That license covers how you can use, modify and share the add-on. For the latest licensing terms and any conditions attached to the download, check the developer's page. The extension also requires no special permissions when installed in Blender, and at just 2.5 KB it stays a small download.
