Earns its place in the ScriptSpot library as a focused SketchUp-to-3ds Max bridge that keeps origin and texture intact across a simple copy and paste.
Paste from SketchUp is a script from dangtiendung that moves geometry between two applications: copy objects in SketchUp, then paste them straight into 3ds Max with the origin and texture preserved. It's built for a faster SketchUp-to-3ds Max workflow, particularly for people who prefer to model in SketchUp.
The script has to be installed in both 3ds Max and SketchUp before it works, and the install order doesn't matter. In SketchUp you add the RBZ file through Extension Manager, which puts a Copy to 3dsMax command in the Extensions menu. In 3ds Max you drag and drop the MZP file into the viewport and press Install, after which it appears under the D95 DESIGN category as Paste from SketchUp.
Once both sides are set up, you copy in SketchUp with Copy to 3dsMax and paste in 3ds Max with Paste from SketchUp. Both commands can be bound to keyboard shortcuts. It's listed here as free and is at version 1.25.
Paste from SketchUp (free) is best for people who model in SketchUp and bring their work into 3ds Max.
Paste from SketchUp (free) is completely free to download and use.
Paste from SketchUp works only when the script is present in both 3ds Max and SketchUp, and the order you install them in doesn't matter. The SketchUp side supplies the Copy to 3dsMax command, while the 3ds Max side supplies the Paste from SketchUp command, so both halves are needed for the transfer to function. If you install it into just one application, the matching command in the other program won't be there and the copy-and-paste workflow can't complete.
Paste from SketchUp installs separately in each application. In SketchUp, open Extension Manager and install the RBZ file; a Copy to 3dsMax command then appears in the Extensions menu. In 3ds Max, drag and drop the MZP file into the viewport and press Install, after which the tool shows up under the D95 DESIGN category as Paste from SketchUp. Once both are in place, you copy geometry in SketchUp and paste it into 3ds Max using those two commands.
Paste from SketchUp is listed here as free, so you can download and use it without a purchase in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current status and any conditions it's best to check the developer's page at d95design. This entry covers the free version of the script, and the same developer publishes a range of other 3ds Max tools as well, which you can browse there separately.
Paste from SketchUp lets you bind both of its commands to keyboard shortcuts. In SketchUp, go to Window > Preferences > Shortcut and assign a key to Copy to 3dsMax, with Ctrl + Shift + C suggested. In 3ds Max, open Customize User Interface > Keyboard, find Paste from SketchUp under the D95 DESIGN group, and assign a key such as Ctrl + Shift + V. These shortcuts are optional but can speed up copying and pasting between the two applications.
