Worth noting: this add-on does not work in Blender 2.93 and later due to a Blender specification change, noted as of version 2.0.50. Listed Blender support runs from 2.8 through 2.92, so confirm your version before installing.
Pose Library Thumbnails is a Blender add-on by Bookyakuno that brings image thumbnails to Blender's pose library. Working in the pose mode of a rig object, you select a thumbnail from the list to apply that pose to the selected bones. The add-on's menu sits in the Property Editor under Armature and Pose Library, and it can also show a panel on the 3D view Item tab.
Thumbnails can be generated automatically, with all operations handled from the menu: create a new pose and thumbnail, render or update thumbnails for the active item, and update a pose with the current one. Creation options cover output path, file format, resolution X and Y, always use camera view, hide overlay, background color, transparency, normal rendering, and relative or absolute paths. A batch rendering option generates thumbnails for every pose, and adjusting the resolution lets it double as an image export for checking poses.
A list buttoning mode turns the pose library list into large, easy-to-click buttons. Note that the add-on does not work in Blender 2.93 and later; listed support runs from 2.8 through 2.92.
Pose Library Thumbnails [Ver2.0.4~] is best for blender riggers and animators who build pose libraries and want visual thumbnails for selecting and applying poses during motion production.
Pose Library Thumbnails [Ver2.0.4~] is completely free to download and use.
Pose Library Thumbnails does not work in Blender 2.93 and later. A specification change in Blender 2.93 broke the add-on, and the thumbnail menu cannot be displayed normally, noted as of version 2.0.50 on August 24, 2021. The listed compatible Blender versions are 2.8, 2.81, 2.82, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91, and 2.92. If you run one of those versions, the add-on functions as described; on 2.93 or newer it will not display correctly, so check your Blender version first.
Pose Library Thumbnails lives in the Property Editor under Armature and then Pose Library, and it is used in the pose mode of a rig object. From there you select a thumbnail from the thumbnail list to apply a pose to the selected bones. The add-on also adds a 3D view panel menu that appears on the Item tab, and the registered tab can be changed from the add-on settings. Menus added by the add-on can be collapsed.
Pose Library Thumbnails saves thumbnails by default in a poselib folder at the same level as the blend file, and you can change this to a different output path if you prefer. Thumbnail creation options let you set the file format, resolution X and Y, whether to always use camera view, hide overlay, use a background color, background transparency, and normal rendering. You can also specify an absolute or a relative path for where the images are written.
Pose Library Thumbnails includes a batch rendering option that generates thumbnails for all poses at once. If you adjust the resolution, it can also serve as an image export function for checking poses. If you do not want to update existing thumbnails, move the files before running the batch, since it will regenerate them. This is separate from the single-item render and update operations that are available directly from the add-on menu.
Pose Library Thumbnails is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GPL license. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you rely on it. The add-on was published by Bookyakuno and targets Blender 2.8 through 2.92, so confirm your Blender version matches those before installing to make sure the thumbnail features display correctly.
