Quick Switch earns its place in the blender_extensions library by keeping its scope tight: one-click switching between editor areas, aimed at laptop and single-monitor users. The v2.0.0 grouped switching and the backup/restore option added in 2.2.0 show ongoing development.
Quick Switch is a Blender add-on that provides a one-click way to move between editor areas. It targets users with limited screen space, such as those on laptops or single-monitor setups, and works to reduce UI clutter while keeping the workspace clean.
Switch buttons are added automatically to the rightmost end of editor headers. The Grouped Editor Switching feature lets you define sets of editors and move between them like browser tabs, with Up and Down controls to reorder editors within a group. You can toggle the switch position between the left and right side of the header, show or hide a separator, and set a custom key binding that doesn't interfere with Blender's built-in shortcuts. A visibility toggle hides groups from headers while keeping keyboard switching active, and a backup/restore option saves your configuration to an external JSON file.

Quick Switch can be installed from within Blender 4.2 or later by opening Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions and searching for its name, then clicking Install. Alternatively, you can download the latest release .zip from the developer's GitHub Releases, then go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, click Install, select the downloaded file, and enable the add-on. Once installed, its preferences are found under Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, where you can create editor groups and set up shortcuts.
Quick Switch supports custom keyboard shortcuts for cycling through editors in a group. In the add-on preferences you enable shortcuts, choose a modifier key such as Alt, Ctrl, or Shift, and pick a key to combine with it; the current shortcut is displayed below the selection. To use it, place your cursor over an editor area and press the configured shortcut to cycle to the next editor in the group, pressing again to continue through the rest. The binding is set to avoid interfering with Blender's built-in shortcuts.
