Why we like it

Rigimap stands out in the superhive library for turning motion capture onto a Rigify rig into a two-button process, then letting you edit and bake the result into a standard action.

What is Rigimap?

Rigimap is a Blender add-on from Picto Filmo for applying motion capture data to Rigify rigs. Rigify is a pre-installed Blender add-on you enable in the add-on section, and it can rig humans, birds, quadrupeds and custom rigs. Where most solutions need many operations to map mocap onto each bone, Rigimap reduces the process to picking a motion capture format and using the plug button.

A RigiMap rig sits between your motion capture and your Rigify rig, carrying an action that translates the mocap. You can animate that action to adjust the result or build motion over it, like a layered animation system. There is a snap IK to mocap option, and both IK and FK can be baked. Once baked, the mocap becomes a Rigify action you can use without the add-on.

This is version 2.0, which works universally across all types of motion capture and is customizable. Preselections are now a matching of bone names rather than actions, so you adjust the RigiMap rig to align the motion capture rest pose with your Rigify rig's rest pose. Hand pose presets are included for finger posing.

Who is Rigimap best for?

Rigimap is best for rigify users bringing motion capture into Blender who want quick mapping, editable results, and IK/FK baking.

How much does Rigimap cost?

Rigimap is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which motion capture formats does Rigimap support?

Rigimap works with a wide range of motion capture standards, and you pick the matching format before mapping. Supported inputs include Mixamo, Actorcore, Rokoko (legacy and beta), IPisoft, Mocaponline, Perception Neuron, Mocap.market, Plask.ai, Xsens, DeepMotion, Radical, Shadow, MoveOne, Mocopi by Sony, Quick Magic in UE4 format, and Blender's internal Rigify Meta Rig. You select the appropriate format in the add-on, import the motion data into your scene, then use the plug button to apply it to your Rigify rig.

Does Rigimap require Rigify in Blender?

Rigimap is built for Rigify, the rigging add-on that ships pre-installed with Blender. You enable Rigify in the add-on section, where it can rig humans, birds, quadrupeds and custom setups. Rigimap then handles the step that usually takes many manual operations, matching motion capture data to each bone, by connecting your mocap to the Rigify rig. In version 2.0 you adjust the RigiMap rig so the motion capture rest pose aligns with your Rigify rig's rest pose.

Can I use Rigimap animations without the add-on after baking?

Rigimap bakes the motion capture animation into a standard Rigify action once you finish editing. After baking, the animation no longer depends on the add-on, so you can use the file without Rigimap installed. Both IK and FK are baked, which means you can keep working with either control scheme after keyframing. The result is a normal Rigify animation you can hand off or continue animating.

Can I edit or adjust the mocap in Rigimap before baking?

Rigimap lets you edit the mapped animation before baking. A RigiMap rig acts as the interface between your mocap and your Rigify rig, carrying an action that translates the motion. You can animate that action to adjust the result or build motion over the mocap, similar to a layered animation system. There is also an option to snap IK to the mocap, along with hand pose presets for finger posing and minimal tools for editing the baked motion.

Is Rigimap free?

Rigimap is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions, check the developer's page from Picto Filmo. This is the newer version, RigiMap 2.0, which works universally across motion capture types and is customizable, replacing the action-based preselections of version 1 with a matching of bone names. Because licensing can change over time, the developer's page is the best place to confirm the latest details before you download.
