Earns its place in the blender_extensions library as a compact add-on that closes one specific gap: reaching the Select Modes from Object Mode rather than only from within Edit Mode.
Select Mode Keymaps is an add-on for Blender by 1P2D that assigns keymaps to toggle between Object and Edit Mode and to switch Select Modes. Blender lets you assign custom keymaps to the different Select Modes from Edit Mode, but those keymaps are not accessible straight from Object Mode. This add-on lets you jump from Face, Edge or Vertex Select mode directly from Object Mode.
The default bindings use the comma key to toggle Object/Edit Mode, with Ctrl for Face Select, Shift for Edge Select and Alt for Vertex Select. Selection modes cannot be combined, since use_extend is set to False. For gaming or productivity mouse users, the developer notes it becomes especially handy to bind the keymap to one of your mouse buttons, letting the modifier key handle the rest.
Version 1.0.1 updated keymap handling for Blender 4.5 and later. It is compatible with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer and released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
Select Mode Keymaps is best for blender users who want to reach Face, Edge and Vertex Select modes and toggle Edit Mode through keymaps without entering Edit Mode first.
Select Mode Keymaps is completely free to download and use.
Select Mode Keymaps is compatible with Blender 4.5 LTS and newer. Version 1.0.1 updated its keymap handling to support Blender 4.5 and later, and the developer recommends switching to the new system once Blender 4.5 is officially released. If you run an earlier build of Blender, check the version history on the developer's page to confirm which release suits your setup before installing this add-on.
Select Mode Keymaps uses the comma key to toggle between Object and Edit Mode. Adding a modifier switches Select Mode: Ctrl plus comma for Face Select, Shift plus comma for Edge Select, and Alt plus comma for Vertex Select. These bindings let you reach Face, Edge or Vertex Select mode directly from Object Mode, rather than only from within Edit Mode as Blender normally requires. Full details are available on the developer's page.
Select Mode Keymaps does not let you combine selection modes, because use_extend is set to False. That means switching to Face, Edge or Vertex Select replaces the current mode rather than adding to it. The developer notes this to keep usage simple. If you rely on combining select modes in your regular Blender workflow, keep this behaviour in mind before adding the keymaps to your setup.
Select Mode Keymaps is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For current licensing terms and any updates, check the developer's page. The add-on also states that it does not require special permissions, so you can add it to Blender without granting extra access. The download itself is small, listed at 5.6 KB.
