Set Camera On Track earns its place in the superhive library by turning a manual camera-path setup into a select-and-go process, with the operating mode driven by the target object and collection you choose. The developer also backs it with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Set Camera On Track is a Blender add-on from 5 Minutes Blender that builds a camera path to track a series of objects, such as dominoes or musical marbles, or to capture a 360-degree view of a model. The setup is quick: select your camera, set a target object and, optionally, a target collection, and the add-on handles the rest.
The mode of operation follows from those fields. With a target object and no collection, the camera moves around the object in a circular path while keeping it in focus. Add a collection and the camera follows a linear path across its objects, which are picked up in the alphabetical order of their names. When the target object sits outside the collection, the camera's focus is set by its position relative to the first object, a mode suited to 3D data comparison videos.
Further controls include Smooth Levels for zigzag paths, an option to ignore child objects, Start and End Offsets, and Start and End Frame settings. Documentation and a demo video are available.
Set Camera On Track is best for tracking a series of objects like dominoes or musical marbles, or capturing a 360-degree view of a model in Blender.
Set Camera On Track is completely free to download and use.
Set Camera On Track sets its mode from the Target Object and Target Collection fields. If you select a target object and leave the collection blank, the camera moves around that object in a circular path while keeping it in focus. If you also select a collection, the camera follows a linear path across all the objects in it. When the target object belongs to that collection, the camera starts from it and moves over the remaining objects, focusing on each object's origin.
Set Camera On Track picks up the objects in a collection in the alphabetical order of their names, so the objects need to be alphabetically numbered in a sequence. If the names are not assigned correctly, the camera will follow the wrong path across the collection. You can also use the Start Offset and End Offset fields to ignore a set number of objects from the beginning or end of the collection, which the developer notes can help sync the camera speed with your animation.
Set Camera On Track supports a comparison mode for this. When the target object is not part of the target collection, the camera starts from the first object in the collection and moves over the remaining objects. In this case the camera's focus is decided by the relative position of the target object and the first object in the collection. The developer notes this mode is suitable for 3D data comparison videos, and a demo video and documentation are available to walk through the options.
Set Camera On Track uses Start Frame and End Frame fields to define when the camera should begin and stop its motion. By default these take the scene's start and end frame numbers, but you can change them as needed. If the camera follows a very zigzag path, the Smooth Levels field can smooth it out, accepting a value between 1 and 10, where zero adds no smoothing effect.
Set Camera On Track is listed as free here in our catalog. For current licensing and any purchase terms, check the developer's page. The developer, 5 Minutes Blender, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and asks that you report any issues by email so they can help resolve them, with a full refund if the add-on does not work as described. Documentation and a video tutorial are available to help you get started.
