Silhouette earns its place in the superhive library by bringing a concept-art staple, silhouette design, into Blender's viewport without extra editors, with the 2.X rewrite focused on performance and stability.
Silhouette is a Blender addon that recreates the silhouette method used in concept art and design, where clean, appealing shapes help artists work out characters, props and environments. Rather than adding separate editors to configure, it keeps everything integrated in the same scene, with controls kept in a dropdown panel over the 3D viewport's header.
From that panel you can set the silhouette color, choose a background color or make it transparent, adjust opacity, and decide whether the silhouette sits in front of or behind your geometry. Fixed View silhouettes come from presets for every view and can snap to the active object, a selected collection, all selected objects or a fixed object, and you can also drive views from a camera. A Navigation Live View mode moves with your navigation view for a live silhouette while sculpting.
The 2.X release is a complete remake built around performance and stability, and it works with Blender 2.93 LTS; Blender 3.0 and later are not supported due to a Blender API limitation.
Silhouette is best for blender artists sculpting or blocking out characters, props and environments who want silhouette feedback inside the viewport.
Silhouette is completely free to download and use.
Silhouette runs on Blender 2.93 LTS, which is the last version the addon supports. Blender 3.0 and later are not supported because of a Blender API technical limitation noted by the developer. If you work in 2.93 LTS, the 2.X release gives you the redesigned dropdown panel, full 2.93 support and the reworked shader. For newer Blender versions you would need to watch the developer's page for any future updates, since current builds target 2.93 LTS only.
Silhouette does not update automatically in sculpt mode, a limitation introduced with Blender 2.82. You have two options: enable an auto-update setting that refreshes on sculpt mode, which affects performance for high-poly meshes, or tap over the silhouette to refresh it manually when you want. For sculpting the developer recommends the Navigation Live View feature instead, a beta but stable mode that moves with your navigation view and shows the silhouette without any performance impact.
Silhouette places its settings in a dropdown panel over the 3D viewport's header, so you control everything from the same scene without opening extra editors. From there you can change the silhouette color, set the background color or make it transparent, adjust opacity, and choose whether the silhouette shows in front of or behind your geometry. Navigation Live View settings appear once you start a live silhouette, and Live Silhouette carries its own style you can change in real time.
Silhouette is listed as free in this catalog, so you can add it to your Blender setup without a purchase. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you download. The addon covers both the older 1.X builds and the 2.X remake, which was rebuilt for better performance and stability, so make sure you grab the 2.X version for the redesigned panel and 2.93 support.
