Why we like it

Simple Action Export earns its place in the superhive library by storing action selections, enabled states and FBX export settings on a per-rig basis, which keeps multi-rig scenes with many animations organized when exporting to FBX.

What is Simple Action Export?

Simple Action Export (SAE) is a Blender add-on built to make the animation-to-export workflow easier by gathering a lot of options into a simple menu, allowing faster iteration through a more streamlined process. It handles the management of multiple rigs that each carry many animations, associating the animations you choose, along with their export settings, to every individual rig. It works the same whether you have one rig or many.

The add-on stores your action selections, which actions are enabled or disabled, FBX export settings, and every other available setting on a per-rig basis. You can export the current active action in one click, batch export all enabled actions to individual FBX files, or select multiple rigs and batch export them simultaneously. Actions can be added, removed, enabled and disabled from the custom UI.

Simple Action Export is fully compatible with custom rigs, Rigify and Auto-Rig Pro. Actions can be imported using filters that narrow the import by name, Fake User status or frame range. Version 0.4.0 fixed many bugs, reworked the Use Individual Start/End Frames feature, and added the ability to define a separate export armature for exporting actions to another armature, such as a proxy rig.

Who is Simple Action Export best for?

Simple Action Export is best for blender animators managing multiple rigs with many animations and exporting them to FBX, including for Unreal Engine pipelines.

How much does Simple Action Export cost?

Frequently asked questions

Does Simple Action Export work with Auto-Rig Pro and Rigify?

Simple Action Export is fully compatible with custom rigs, Rigify and Auto-Rig Pro. You add the actions you want to export, and the add-on associates those actions together with their export settings for each rig. Because the same compatibility applies across these rig types, you can manage and export animations for custom rigs, Rigify rigs and Auto-Rig Pro rigs from the add-on's menu. Settings such as action selections and enabled states are stored per rig, which helps when a scene mixes different rig types and each one needs its own export configuration.

Can Simple Action Export batch export several rigs at once?

Simple Action Export includes a Multi-Rig Batch Export option that lets you select multiple rigs and batch export all of them simultaneously with the add-on's functionality. It also offers Batch Export Actions, which exports all enabled actions to individual FBX files, and a one-click Export Current Active Action for the currently active action. Settings including action selections, which actions are enabled or disabled, FBX export settings and other options are stored on a per-rig basis, so each rig keeps its own configuration when you run these batch exports.

Does Simple Action Export help with exporting animations to Unreal Engine?

Simple Action Export offers an option to export using the Unreal Engine scale, which automatically fixes the unit difference between Blender and Unreal Engine. Alongside this, it can add prefixes to exports, export to either a single FBX file or individual FBX files, export the armature at world center automatically, and include the mesh on export. You can also create presets to save your settings. These options are set from the add-on's menu and stored per rig, so you can reuse a configuration suited to your export needs.

How do I add many actions to Simple Action Export at once?

Simple Action Export lets you import actions using filters instead of adding them one by one, and the filters can be mixed to narrow down the import. Three filters are available: Add All Containing, where you specify a case-sensitive string so only actions with that string in the name are added; Only Actions with Fake User, which adds actions that have Fake User enabled; and Only Actions within Range, where you set an end-range in frames so only actions up to that length are imported. Adding, removing, enabling and disabling actions is handled from the custom UI.

Is Simple Action Export free to use?

Simple Action Export is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions on use, check the developer's page, since those details can change over time. Functionally, the add-on covers exporting the active action, batch exporting actions, multi-rig batch export, action management through a custom UI, filter-based action importing, and options such as Unreal Engine scale, presets and per-rig settings storage. Version 0.4.0 fixed many bugs and added new features, including the ability to define a separate export armature.
