Why we like it

Vmd Retargeting earns its place in the superhive library as a focused bridge between MMD .vmd motion and Daz or CC characters in Blender, with separate control over body, eyeball, facial, viseme and camera motion.

What is Vmd Retargeting?

Vmd Retargeting is a Blender addon from xianran that imports motion from MMD .vmd files onto Daz or CC models. It works with or without an accompanying MMD model, so you can either bring in motion directly from a .vmd file or retarget body motion from an MMD model onto your character.

The addon lets you import body, eyeball, facial, viseme and camera motion separately. You can set interpolation and easing, adjust the arm rotation rate to keep hands from poking into the chest, and set a camera height offset or rotation rate. When a Daz or CC character is on high heels, it can ignore feet rotation. A bonus feature creates a proxy mesh for realtime physics.

It supports Daz Genesis 8 imported through the Diffeomorphic daz importer or the Official Daz to Blender Bridge, and CC4 models imported with the cc blender tools addon. Vmd Retargeting runs on Blender 3.0 or later and is available from the Blender official market website.

Who is Vmd Retargeting best for?

Vmd Retargeting is best for blender artists who want to apply MMD .vmd motion to Daz or CC (Character Creator) characters, with or without an MMD model.

How much does Vmd Retargeting cost?

Vmd Retargeting is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

What Blender versions does Vmd Retargeting support?

Vmd Retargeting runs on Blender 3.0 or later, so most recent releases are covered. If you're on Blender 5.x, you'll need Diffeomorphic import_daz version 5.0.0 or newer to import Daz characters. When that download arrives as a folder named like 'Diffeomorphic-import_daz-...', unzip it, rename the folder to 'import_daz', zip it again, and install that new zip as a Blender addon before using Vmd Retargeting on your model.

What character models does Vmd Retargeting support?

Vmd Retargeting supports Daz Genesis 8 imported with the Diffeomorphic daz importer or the Official Daz to Blender Bridge, and CC4 (Character Creator) models imported with the cc blender tools addon. Characters imported through FBX work for CC models too, but for Daz models imported that way, retargeting facial and viseme motion won't work. For Genesis 9, note that its twist bones are no longer in the arms, so any vmd motion that uses twist bones won't map well onto Genesis 9's arms.

How do I install Vmd Retargeting?

Vmd Retargeting is bought from the Blender official market website, then you install the .zip file you receive in Blender. Keep in mind Blender now separates extensions from addons, and these are different. After installing, search 'Vmd retargeting' in your addon list and enable it. In the viewport, press 'N' to display the tool panels and select the 'Vmd Retarget' panel to start working. If you're new to installing Blender addons, a quick search for 'blender install addon' will walk you through the basics.

Is Vmd Retargeting free to use?

Vmd Retargeting is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current terms before you download. The addon is distributed through the Blender official market website, where you can review any licensing details and grab the .zip file to install. For usage guidelines and issue reporting, the developer also maintains a GitHub repository.
