Why we like it

Earns its place for pairing drag-and-drop decal placement and a surface-adapting gizmo with out-of-the-box procedural materials, so hard-surface texturing skips manual UV mapping. It also ships with a sizeable decal and texture library under full access for everyone.

What is Xdecal™ Manager?

Xdecal™ Manager, built by MOTH3R® for Blender, is a drag-and-drop decals manager for texturing and ornamenting models without UV maps. It works well on hard-surfaced models with curvature, and for more complex geometry it supports interactive projections with depth control. Decals carry procedural effects such as damage and peeled paint, wear, bump and normal maps, and parallax.

Placement runs on drag-and-drop paired with gizmo controls: the gizmo drops a decal onto any object and adapts its geometry to the surface. Any material or object can serve as a template pasted like a sticker, and a context popup gives quick access to decal geometry and material settings, with parameters that can be copied, pasted or inherited. The built-in Palette loads decals dynamically from a folder of JPG, PNG or similar files, with no preloads or conversions.

The add-on ships with a decal library of 500+ and growing, a texture library for weathering, and a set of CC0 prototype materials you can adapt or replace with your own. It's offered as a single all-inclusive version with full access for everyone, and full documentation is available at docs.moth3r.com.

Who is Xdecal™ Manager best for?

Xdecal™ Manager is best for texturing and ornamenting hard-surfaced Blender models with curvature without UV maps, using drag-and-drop decals and procedural materials.

How much does Xdecal™ Manager cost?

Xdecal™ Manager is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Xdecal™ Manager work without UV maps?

Xdecal™ Manager is built to texture and ornament Blender models without UV maps. You place decals with drag-and-drop and a dedicated gizmo that adapts a decal's geometry to the surface, and it works well on hard-surfaced models with curvature. For more complex geometry, the add-on supports interactive projections with depth control, so decals can wrap over shapes that would otherwise need manual unwrapping. This lets you skip the manual texturing and UV mapping steps that hard-surface surfacing often involves, and keep the focus on placement and material adjustments instead.

What image formats can Xdecal™ Manager's Palette load?

Xdecal™ Manager reads JPG, PNG or similar image files directly from a folder on your drive through its built-in Palette, with no preloads or conversions needed. You point the add-on to the decal folder and the decals are loaded dynamically, so there's nothing to import beforehand. The Palette also creates new decals from those files, makes instances of ones you've already imported, and handles utility functions such as replacing decals or swapping their images or material. You can save favourite folders using the built-in preset system.

Does Xdecal™ Manager come with a decal library?

Xdecal™ Manager ships with a decal library of 500+ and growing, plus a texture library for weathering shaders and models. It also includes a small set of CC0 prototype materials covering common use cases, from basic diffuse colour to multi-texture PBR and parallax or fake-3D effects. You can adapt those prototypes or build your own material libraries. The XDECAL™ Assets Library is credited to Ivan Santic at MOTH3R® and licensed under CC BY 4.0, so check the developer's page for full licensing terms before you rely on it.

Is Xdecal™ Manager free, and are there Pro or Lite tiers?

Xdecal™ Manager is listed as free here, and it's offered as a single all-inclusive version with full access for everyone, so there are no Pro or Lite tiers to compare or upgrade between. Licensing can change over time, so check the developer's page for current terms before you rely on it. Full online documentation is available at docs.moth3r.com if you want to review what the complete package covers before installing it into Blender.
