Earns its place in the Blender extensions library by turning manual driver setup into a record-and-map workflow that spans bones, objects, shape keys and custom Blender properties.
Easy Driver is a Blender add-on for setting up transformation drivers without building them by hand. Move a bone or object between two positions, and it detects which axis changed the most and records the exact min/max range for mapping. Bones can drive by scale, rotation or position and keep working even when controlled by IK or other constraints, while any object's location or rotation can serve as input.
Targets cover several types. Custom pose targets record min/max poses for multiple bones at once and detect which bones changed and on which axes. Shape key targets let you browse and select shape keys from a mesh, set min/max values with live feedback, and drive several at the same time. Custom path targets can drive any Blender property through custom paths, with built-in validation and support for float ranges and boolean toggles.
Linear mapping with clamping keeps values inside the range you set, batch creation makes multiple drivers at once, and one-click removal clears them out. Quaternion-to-Euler conversion handles rotation mode conflicts automatically. Version 1.6.0 added a custom property source mode and multi-rig pose targets.
Easy Driver is best for character rigging such as facial controls, finger poses and corrective shapes, along with mechanical rigs, architectural visualization, motion graphics and product visualization.
Easy Driver is completely free to download and use.
Easy Driver lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS, and the developer notes support ranging from Blender 3.2.0 up to 5.1.0. Versions 5.2 and above are listed as unsupported. The 1.6.0 update also states its new custom property source mode is compatible with Blender 4.0 through 5.1. If you are on a version near those edges, check the developer's page on GitHub for the current compatibility details before installing.
Easy Driver includes shape key targets that let you browse and select shape keys from any mesh object. You can set custom min/max values with live feedback so you see exactly what the result looks like, and drive multiple shape keys at the same time. The developer cites viseme control and corrective shape keys as examples. A 1.6.0 fix also removed the earlier 0 to 1 limit on shape key min/max values.
Easy Driver can use armature bones as driver sources by scale, rotation or position, and it still works even when the bone is controlled by IK or other constraints. It detects which axis changed the most as you move the bone between two positions and records the min/max range for mapping. Quaternion-to-Euler conversion is handled automatically to deal with rotation mode conflicts during setup.
Easy Driver 1.6.0 introduced a custom property source mode, letting you create and use custom properties instead of physical objects, with support for object and bone custom properties across pose, shape key and custom path targets. It also added multi-rig pose targets that record min/max across multiple armatures at once and handle same-named bones on different rigs, with the UI grouping targets by armature. The release included several bug fixes, including shader node socket drivers in Blender 5.0+ and extension registration issues in Blender 4.2+.
Easy Driver is listed as free in this catalog, so no price is set here. For current licensing terms and the most up-to-date version, check the developer's page on GitHub. The source lists the add-on as not requiring any special permissions to run. The developer also maintains a Gumroad page that includes tutorial files and always hosts the latest version. Because licensing and distribution can change over time, treat the developer's official pages as the authoritative source before you rely on any particular terms.
