The Non-Destructive Weight Layer & Voxel Skinning Add-On brings a layer-based weight painting system to Blender, paired with a Voxel Binding Engine. Your base weights stay safe underneath while specialized layers let you tweak specific areas—standard Blender weights just for the fingers, Voxel weights for the body, for example. When you're finished, you bake the layers down.
The Voxel Binding Engine automatically calculates smooth skin weights that prevent clothing and body meshes from clipping or intersecting during extreme poses. Seam Welding Technology detects boundaries and welds adjacent vertices together to eliminate visible gaps around areas like the neck, which suits characters built from separate parts. Smart Symmetrical Mirroring mirrors or live-paints weights even when a mesh is structurally asymmetrical or has offset topology.
Dedicated mesh dropdowns give each independent object its own isolated layer stack rather than one long vertex-group list, and region masking is included. A Rigging Pie Menu on Alt + F lets you switch paint brushes, toggle selection modes, or swap target meshes without returning to the side panel. The add-on is listed for Blender 4.5 under the GPL license, and a demo video is available.
