Earns its place in the Blender extensions library for filling in copy, paste, and set-weight operations for skin weights, functions the developer notes are common in other 3D editors. The 0.3.3 update fixes an issue with weight normalization in Edit mode.
Skin Weights Copypaster brings copy, paste, and set-weight capabilities to Blender's vertex weighting workflow, functions the developer notes are common in other 3D editors. The add-on copies skin weights from one vertex to a selection and lets you assign precise weight values to selected vertices.
The Copy Weights operator takes weights from the first vertex in the selection. Paste Weights offers two options: clearing existing vertex groups for target vertices before pasting, and normalizing weights after pasting when the copied ones were not normalized. A Set Weights operator lets you pick a starting value from a preset list, then adjust it in an operator panel that appears in the corner of the viewport. A separate operator selects an edge loop in Weight Paint mode when at least two vertices are selected.
The add-on installs from a downloaded zip through Blender's preferences and adds a panel to the Item tab in the viewport N-panel, visible in Edit and Weight Paint mode. It is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer and released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
Skin Weights Copypaster is best for blender artists working with vertex groups and skin weights who want copy, paste, and precise set-weight operators in Edit and Weight Paint mode.
Skin Weights Copypaster is completely free to download and use.
Skin Weights Copypaster is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. The developer also notes it was tested on Blender 3.1 through 4.3, describing it as rough around the edges but working. The add-on appears as a panel in the Item tab of the viewport N-panel, shown or hidden with the N key, and is available in both Edit and Weight Paint mode, where its copy, paste, and set-weight operators are used. For the current compatibility range, check the developer's GitHub page.
Skin Weights Copypaster installs from a downloaded zip file. Download the zip, then open Blender and go to Edit, Preferences, Add-ons, and use Install to select the downloaded file. It can also be dragged and dropped into Blender. Once enabled, it adds a Skin Weights Copypaster panel to the Item tab in the viewport menu, which you show or hide with the N key. The panel is visible in Edit and Weight Paint mode.
Skin Weights Copypaster is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The developer describes it as an add-on to copy and paste skin weights from vertex to vertices for free, having written it after not finding an existing free solution. The extension requires no special permissions. For current licensing details, refer to the developer's GitHub page.
Skin Weights Copypaster's Paste Weights operator has two options. The first, clear existing weights, removes existing vertex groups for the target vertices before pasting. The second, normalize weights, normalizes the weights after pasting when the copied ones were not normalized. The pasted values come from the Copy Weights operator, which takes them from the first vertex in the selection. The 0.3.3 update fixed an issue with weight normalization in Edit mode.
