Auto Sprite earns its place in the superhive library as a self-contained builder-and-loader pair, and recent updates added Blender 5.1.2 support along with a fix for an unsupported Python library.
Auto Sprite is an all-in-one add-on for creating and loading sprite sheets in Blender. It ships as two parts: the Auto Sprite Builder in the Image Editor and the Auto Sprite Loader in the 3D View. Build a sheet from an image sequence imported from a folder or directly from the render output, choose a layout and maximum output resolution, then generate it.
The add-on includes a render queue, automatic sprite sheet dimensions, automatic scaling, automatic camera tracking constraints, node-based playback controls, and real-time feedback. It offers multiple camera tracking options and extensive playback controls, along with Hair Particle support and per-object random. Random color controls cover hue, saturation, and value, and there are random speed and start frame variation options. Cycles and Eevee are both used as render engines.
Distributed under the GPL license and marked Blender Extension compatible, Auto Sprite also includes a user manual, access to the Auto Sprite Discord community, and free lifetime updates with email alerts.
Auto Sprite is best for blender artists building and loading sprite sheets from rendered animations or image sequences.
Auto Sprite is completely free to download and use.
Auto Sprite lists Blender 5.1 as its Blender version and is marked Blender Extension compatible. The update log shows Blender 5.1.2 support added in v1.3, Blender 4.3 support in v1.2, and Blender 3.2 compatibility introduced during the v1.1 refactor. It is distributed as an add-on. For the most current compatibility details, check the developer's page before installing, since supported versions can shift as new Blender releases arrive.
Auto Sprite works with Cycles and Eevee, the two render engines listed for the add-on. Because it can build a sprite sheet directly from the render output, you can use either engine to produce the frames that feed into a sheet. It also accepts an image sequence imported from a folder as the source instead of a fresh render. The developer's page has the full details on setting up the render queue and choosing a layout and maximum output resolution.
Auto Sprite is listed as free here, and it is distributed under the GPL license. It comes with free lifetime updates that include email alerts, along with access to the Auto Sprite Discord community and a user manual. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current arrangement before downloading. Auto Sprite is also flagged as a Blender Dev Fund contributor.
Auto Sprite builds a sprite sheet in a few steps: import an image sequence from a folder or pull directly from the render output, select a layout and maximum output resolution, then generate the sheet. A render queue, automatic sprite sheet dimensions, and automatic scaling handle the sizing, while node-based playback controls and real-time feedback let you preview the result. The Auto Sprite Builder lives in the Image Editor and the Auto Sprite Loader in the 3D View. See the user manual for step-by-step guidance.
