FTW Flattening Toolset stands out in the blender_extensions library for pairing standard UV operations with centimeter-accurate canvas scaling and curve export aimed at shoe design.
FTW Flattening Toolset is a UV editing suite for Blender, built around shoe design workflows. It bundles a full set of UV operations: angle-based Unwrap with a Live Unwrap toggle, Pin and Unpin for controlled unwrapping, Flatten to Center with edge preservation, Mirror Pairs for symmetrical unwrapping on the X or Y axis, UV Labels for island naming and organization, and Minimize Stretch for relaxing and optimizing UVs.
Scale to Canvas sizes UVs to real-world dimensions in centimeters, while the Canvas Checker generates a procedural checker texture where each square equals 1cm for reading distortion. The 2D Curves Export extracts UV boundary edges as POLY curves, applies subdivision with corner preservation, and includes a canvas border, which the developer notes suits CNC, laser cutting and pattern cutting. The tools are split across two panels: an FTW UV Flattening tab in the UV Editor and an FTW Checker tab in the 3D View.
Version 2.0.0 adds a Curve Align function, an auto sorting button for mirror and averaging points, and a UV transfer function based on topology, a plane or another mesh surface. The add-on runs on Blender 5.0 and newer across Windows, Mac and Linux.
FTW Flattening Toolset is best for blender shoe designers working on UV layouts, and anyone preparing flattened patterns for CNC, laser cutting or pattern cutting.
FTW Flattening Toolset is completely free to download and use.
FTW Flattening Toolset lists compatibility with Blender 5.0 and newer, so you'll need a current build to run it. It works across Windows, Mac and Linux. The UV editing tools operate in Edit mode inside the UV Editor, while the Canvas Checker in the 3D View panel works in both Object and Edit mode. Version 2.0.0 is the current release listed here. If you're on an older Blender version, check the developer's page for compatibility details before installing.
FTW Flattening Toolset installs by dragging and dropping the add-on into Blender, or by downloading it and using Install from Disk. Once enabled, it adds two panels: an FTW UV Flattening tab in the UV Editor holding the full toolset, and an FTW Checker tab in the 3D View with the canvas size setting and checker toggle. The extension requires no special permissions. Refer to the developer's page and Blender's extension documentation for step-by-step guidance.
FTW Flattening Toolset is listed as free here, and it's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. That license covers use, modification and redistribution under its terms. The project's source is hosted on the developer's GitHub page, where you can review the code and the license in full. For current licensing details, check the developer's page directly before relying on any specific terms.
Version 2.0.0 of FTW Flattening Toolset introduces a Curve Align function, an auto sorting button for mirror and averaging points, and a new UV transfer function based on topology, a plane or another mesh surface. These join the existing UV toolset covering unwrapping, flattening, symmetrical unwrapping and canvas scaling. This release is the current version listed here. For the complete version history, see the developer's page.
FTW Flattening Toolset includes a 2D Curves Export feature that extracts UV boundary edges as POLY curves, applies subdivision with corner preservation, and includes a canvas border for reference. The toolset is described as suited to CNC, laser cutting and pattern cutting. Its Scale to Canvas function sizes UVs to real-world dimensions in centimeters, and the Canvas Checker treats each square as 1cm. For more on these export options, check the developer's page.
