BagaPaste earns its place in the blender_extensions library for turning a copy-paste into a plane or reference image, including auto-downloading images from URLs and letting you choose where pasted files are stored.
BagaPaste is a Blender add-on from Kiara_Bagattini that brings images into a scene straight from the clipboard. Copy an image, screenshot, file, local path, or image URL, then paste it as a plane or a reference image. When the clipboard holds an HTTP or HTTPS URL, BagaPaste downloads the image automatically before importing.
The add-on is reachable from 3D View > Add > Image and from the N-Panel under BagaPaste. Alignment options cover World, View, 3D Cursor, and Active Object, with optional placement at the 3D cursor. It supports transparency and lets you choose a custom storage location for pasted images: the blend folder, a temp directory, or a directory you set.
BagaPaste runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux and is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer. It is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Version 1.0.3 added support across all platforms using native features and switched to the window manager clipboard.
BagaPaste is best for blender users who want to drop clipboard images, screenshots, files, or image URLs into a scene as planes or reference images without saving and importing them by hand.

BagaPaste is compatible with Blender 5.0 and newer, and version 1.0.3 targets that release. The developer notes it may run on earlier versions but does not guarantee it. If you are on Blender 5.0 or later, you can add the extension by dragging and dropping it into Blender, or by downloading it and installing from disk through the Extensions preferences. For versions below 5.0, behaviour is uncertain, so testing on your own setup is the safest approach before relying on it in a project.
BagaPaste supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. Version 1.0.3 added cross-platform support using each system's native features, with PowerShell on Windows, osascript on macOS, and wl-paste or xclip on Linux. It reads clipboard data through the window manager clipboard. On Linux that means having wl-paste or xclip available, since BagaPaste relies on them to access the clipboard. Across all three platforms, the same paste-as-plane and paste-as-reference-image workflow applies once the add-on is installed and enabled.
BagaPaste works from a copy-then-paste flow. Copy an image, screenshot, image file, local file path, or image URL, then in Blender's 3D View choose Add > Image > Paste as Plane, or open the BagaPaste panel in the N-Panel and use Paste as Plane. You can also paste as a reference image. When the clipboard holds an HTTP or HTTPS URL, BagaPaste downloads the image first and then imports it. Alignment options and optional placement at the 3D cursor are available when you paste.
BagaPaste requests three permissions in Blender. It uses file access to save clipboard or downloaded images to disk before importing them, network access to download images when the clipboard contains an HTTP or HTTPS URL, and clipboard access to read image, file, or text data from the system clipboard. These map directly to how it operates: reading what you copied, fetching remote images when needed, and writing files to your chosen storage location before bringing them into the scene.
BagaPaste is listed as free here and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, which covers use, modification, and redistribution under its terms. The add-on is a compact download and can be added by dragging it into Blender or installing it from disk through the Extensions preferences.
